Always, anytime I leave the house or they go to school , friends house, work, sleep. You never know when the last time you will see someone so make sure to know you loved them and like wise

most of the time it is just said by rote, almost like 'goodbye'
We said it so much growing up it was like that. Which led to some embarrassing situations when I said it to girls I was dating but not serious with. No fun walking that back.

Best feeling in the world is when your daughter is just hanging out on a lazy day and she says "Hey dad"... You think she's about to ask for a snack or water or something and she just says "Love you".
I tell my daughter I love her all day long. And it is the best thing when she just looks over and says I love you dad.

With my husband: Everyday (to and from)
With my step-kid: Most of the time (to and from)
When I was younger in my immediate family: Almost never. Was usually told quite the opposite from Dad.
With my Dad now: He says it when he wants something.

When I was a kid, not often. As a husband and father, multiple times per day.
In my early 20's, I had a falling out with a buddy of a buddy. We never actually fought, but OT friendly words were exchanged. He passed away in a car wreck a few months later. That hurt, knowing I could never make amends with him for the last things I had said. I couldn't imagine for someone I actually love.

Never.
If anyone says it the response is “who’s dying?”

I feel that .
Worse even than that though is accidentally saying to one of your buddies when leaving , or hanging up the phone.. hasn't happened to me, but ive had it happen to people I know.. but I have accidentally said it to my boss, which was extremely embarrassing .. At least my boss at that time was female .

More with my kids than when I was a kid.

Hear that! Good stuff.
Two others for us:
1. When it kids tell one another
2. When son tells his grandparents in front of his friends or teammates (plays college football), without pause. Just normal.
Pretty cool stuff.

I think this is why I show love by doing. We were absolutely loved as kids but it was always implied and rarely said. Also, the reason I am still uncomfortable expressing intimacy to this day, outside of my kids and wife.

To my wife, multiple times a day. To my family and growing up? Only to my mom when we’re hanging up or leaving

With family, always; also most of the time with friends. Oddly enough, my sons impacted me with that; even in high school, they told their friends they loved them. They went to a very small school, so maybe that was a factor.

When I was getting a belt spanking from my dad he would say I am doing this out of love.
I once said to him please don't do it out of hate then.

It loses its meaning when you say it all the time.
I've never had a male relative in my life tell me they love me.
I'm kind of glad, that would be kind of cringy.
Heard it from mother/grandmothers quite often.

I tell my kids every day.

Always everyday. Everytime I speak to my kids who are off in college. My wife every day. In my childhood my parents never expressed love and affection. I made the conscious change to make sure my children know they are loved.
