I think this is more of a planned thing.
Everything soon will become too expensive to buy outright.
These companies want to cell phone model to guarantee income.
3 year rent to own, pay for online access, and digital only games you never truly own.

This shite definitely contributed to the death of a great franchise.
Information recently came out that some devs were working on a gay destiny dating game.
Somewhere along the way, destiny got hijacked by blue haired land whales and activists.
Despite the "every character is gay" shifts the overall game was still good.
Western devs have to purge these people from their studios, otherwise, western development is dead.
