Looked into getting a hair transplant here in Southeast Asia last year.. 3500 grafts would have cost about $4k usd, about 1/5th of the price in America.. and the doctors here are mostly US trained and do great work.. Turkey is also a very popular country to get cheap hair transplants.. i have heard tell that when you catch an airplane out of Istanbul, 75% of the plane is usually dudes with their heads bandaged up .

Ultimately for me though, it was determined that im not a good candidate since im 47 with minimal hair loss (#humblebrag)… ive got minor recession and some light thinning in the crown .. but im a vain SOB so wanted some fuller hair.. doctor recommended i get on one of the medications if i wanted to grow some more hair, but i dont do those meds b/c there’s a minimal chance of side effects that i dont wanna frick with .. but that’s just me , some people swear by finasteride and similar meds, so as they say here in the Far East- “Up to you .”

They should have had the opportunity to take a pill and die with dignity. Now the person who found them will never get the image of a loved one's brains scattered around a room. Instead of telling grandkids that grandpa died peacefully in his sleep, you have to try to explain why grandma will never enter the house again.

Be careful, you are making too much logical sense for some of these religious types to process .

Yet one more reason why relgion does far more harm than it does good in the world .
After the Jarrett Lee/Jordan Jefferson locker room debacle in the Superdome, everything in America started to fall apart .

Point to the research that validates this statement

Ah, the old ‘point to the research’ post.. guess i assumed that anyone who speaks English as their first language could easily ascertain that i was agreeing with the poster’s point that McIlroy prioritizes his sleep and takes it very seriously .. and *also* that i put sleep far, far above diet or exercise in terms of robust physical health and how it makes me personally feel on a vitality level.. others may feel better from running a marathon or eating a clean diet .. apologies for not attaching a white paper or a Pubmed article for your perusal .

No Caffeine After 2 PM: McIlroy limits his caffeine intake to the early afternoon to avoid disrupting his natural sleep cycle. Last Meal at Least 2 Hours Before Bed: He ensures he doesn't eat too close to bedtime, giving his body time to digest and preventing sleep disruption. Blue Light Blocking Glasses: He puts on blue light-blocking glasses in the evening (around 5 p.m. or 6 p.m.) to reduce exposure to digital light, helping him wind down. Supplements: He uses magnesium and theanine to help improve sleep quality. Optimal Temperature: He keeps his bedroom cool, which aids in better sleep quality.

Wow, Rory and myself do the exact same things .. we are like the same person.. except im a little more extreme with my sleep hygiene .. AND i have never played a round of golf in my life .

ETA seriously though, i do agree that sleep is by far and away THE #1 thing in life for good health.. like, twice as important as diet and exercise combined.. doesnt matter what i eat or how much i workout, if i get a good night’s sleep i wake up feeling like i can conquer the world .

Exercise, sunlight, right food/amt/time of day, decent hydration throughout day, and sleeping right length and hours (exercise and sleep beget good sleep).

My brother, ive been practicing ‘good sleep hygiene’ since before it was cool.. i sleep in a very dark, cool room.. no caffeine after about 9:00 in the morning .. no food after dinner to avoid stomach upset .. doing cardio til my legs fall off.. no screen time for two hours before bed.. after 20 years of all that and more, i realized that i, and some people, just have a more difficult time switching our brains off and not worrying about our ‘to-dos’ and our next day’s schedule, etc.. some of us just need a little nudge into dreamland .. for me , alcohol and cannibas doesnt work either.. sometimes a little Benadryl does the trick, but of course it seems dangerous.. whatever you do, stay away from Ambien, i used to be dependent (not addicted) on that stuff and it’s evil .
Do you remember that whenever we had to take a leak, we’d have to piss against this long wall that was basically a troth ?

It’s been almost half a lifetime ago, yet i can remember it like it was just the other day.. the pounding beat of ‘Jump Around’ echoing in my head while im pissing like Seabiscuit up against that wall .
Unfortunately some of the most popular OTC products people take to help them sleep- such as Benadryl and similar antihistamines/sleep aids- have also been linked to Alzheimer’s and dementia.. kinda sucks for those of us who have trouble shutting our brains off at night .. worrying about developing Alzheimer’s doesnt help .

This would have been cool 30 years ago SI is a dead brand now

30 years ago, not only was the ‘Baton Rouge Hilton’ located at the I10/I12 split (now the Marriott)- but ‘Sports Illustrated’ was a bar in Tigerland where i spent at least 4 or 5 nights per week when school was in session .. anyone else ancient like me will remember .

ETA i see that the poster directly above me remembers

Where in SE Asia? They love their malls there.

Currently in Bangkok on a stopover for a couple days.. yes, mall culture here is next level.. in pretty much every Asian country ive been to.. it actually kinda reminds me of American malls in the 1980s, in how people congregate there for shopping or for meeting up or catching a movie, or just for no reason at all.. plus the weather in most parts of Asia is more hot & humid than South Louisiana so people of all ages often hang out at malls just for the air conditioning .
Wandering thru a mall this afternoon in Southeast Asia and i stumbled across this place .. ‘Bake A Wish’.. aka BAW.. apparently it’s a chain with many locations, but it’s the first one ive seen..

That is not Chick Fil A behavior.

I dont know, guns + chick fil a = some pretty typical Maga shite .

Im not familiar with the firearms laws in NJ, but if there was a “good guy with a gun” then it would be perfectly on-brand .
No, and to be honest, i think that to feel like you’re ’trapped in the wrong body’ would be hell on Earth.. im not smart enough to know if it’s “just” mental illness, or if it’s something else.. what i do know is when i was a very little kid, there was a guy on the cover of the Wheaties box, and on one of my favorite tv shows- Chips- and winning Olympic gold medals- who we all wanted to be like…. His name was Bruce Jenner, and come to find out, even way back then- he felt that he was trapped in the wrong body.. anytime i feel like my life is shite, or if i start to envy someone who seems like theyve ‘got it all together’- i think about that and i am thankful ive never had those feelings .
Like 90% of the posters here, i too have spent time living in Texas.. I’m not even sure if I would count Texas as “moving away“… I am half kidding.. To me, Texas, especially the Houston metro, is just an extension of the Northshore… It’s like if you crossed the Causeway and instead of sitting in traffic for 45 minutes before you reached your home, you kept driving for another three or four hours, that’s basically Houston.. also, true story, I went to way more crawfish boils while living in Texas than I ever did while growing up in NOLA, for whatever that’s worth.
Thanks for the tips.. even though ive seen a good bit of the Kingdom, there’s still much left for me to explore.. ‘Phuketgrad’ has the nicest beaches ive seen in Thailand, but way way too crowded and expensive for me.. next on my list to check out , in re to beaches/islands, is Koh Lanta .. and yeah you mentioned the Mekong, i want to see it and also to visit Vientiane since ive never been to Laos.. the good news is that it’s all so affordable and accessible .. glad you’re finding ways to manage the shitty air quality, for me it’s just one of those tradeoffs in life that you have to decide if it’s worth it.. if someone wants to live in Chiang Mai, then they need to bake in the cost of getting an Airbnb from Jan-April in the south of Thailand, or just suffer instead .
Gotcha.. yes, i find that my American dollars go a helluva lot further when i am in cities in the Isan region like Korat, Khon Kaen, Udon and Ubon than they do in places like Krabi, Huahin and of course Bangkok and Phuket… Phuket is in some ways as expensive as America..and Bkk is quickly getting there too.. plus ive dated a couple of women from Isan and they are the best  .. either way, in my experience living in, or visiting Thailand is a far easier adjustment for people from Louisiana than from other parts of the US, since we are already accustomed to heat & humidity and to spicy foods .

Sawasdee krap

May i ask, where in Thailand ?
Ive said for a while, and now im more convinced- that i think the number of TD members who live outside of Louisiana outnumbers the members who live *in* Louisiana … obviously the vast majority of us have LA ties, or grew up there.. but i think there are more posters currently outside the state than inside of it.. i wonder if the moderators have a metric they can easily look at tell if im right or wrong about this ? And by ‘member’ i mean people who actually have an account and post at least once in a while, not necessarily just prolific posters .

This sounds like a reddit post from someone that has anxiety.

Not sure about the reddit part since I never go there.. but you say ‘anxiety’ like it isnt incredibly common .. Matter of fact, look around in 2026- i would say that anyone who isn’t hugely anxious just isnt paying attention, or has their head buried in the sand , or just has a brain that’s not wired right .

LSU isn’t just a state/regional brand. They’re a national brand

I was jogging by a group of kids playing flag football in the Philippines a while back, i was wearing an LSU shirt and one of the kids yells ‘Hey i like your shirt !’ And we exchanged geaux tigers… also the NBA is more popular in Asia than it is in America; when i tell people i attended the same school as Shaquille O’Neal, they cant believe it.. also, even though Shaq’s a few years older than me, i can tell they think i must be around 85 yrs old lol, since they know Shaq mostly as the graybeard from the pre and postgame shows .
