I like Goldwater the best, but if I could change history, I might choose Hughes. Curtailing Wilson to one term may have stopped a lot of foolishness.

Based on that list, my immediate thought is Thomas Dewey.
Most of those on that list who lost would have been mediocre at best or would have been worse than the actual winner.
My runner up to Dewey would probably be Stevenson.

I’d be fascinated to know what life would be like if Barry Goldwater had been elected in 1964 or Thomas Dewey in 44 or 48. We could be in a much better or worse world.

That’s like saying you’d like to see Alabama win a title in the last 20 yrs without Saban. GWB was complicit in 9/11 and used it as the keystone for all of the shite he did for the next 7 years. Wars, patriot act, etc.

I mean, we got a good taste of his pre-9/11 goals in No Child Left Behind, the tax cut, and Medicare reform (Medicare Part D) in his first term.
His second term seemed completely consumed by the wars, in my memory.

Reading over these names, there’s a reason a lot of these men lost.
I do think we would be in a better place if Gore won, but that may say more about Bush then anything else. And I do think Dole would have been a better President than Clinton.
