Just to add, though, I’ve often read that ill-fated James A. Garfield had tremendous upside with Rushmore-like abilities. Huge loss for America. Advise if I’m off base here.

What a load of horseshite! From FY1993 to FY2000, the National debt went from $4.4 Trillion to $5.67 trillion. The closest Clinton ever got to a balanced budget was FY2000 when the deficit was $17.1 billion! And the only way he was able to accomplish this sleight of hand was by borrowing far more money in the form of intragovernmental holdings.

Barry Goldwater and Wendell Wilkie. Mitt Romney would have been head and shoulders above Obama in 2012.

Like some others , I would put Barry Goldwater at the top of the list, mainly because I don’t think we would have had the creation of the welfare state that good ole LBJ created.

I’ve heard good things about Wendell Willkie. FDR was more scared of him than any other opponent he has faced beforehand.

People ITT downvoting mentions of Romney because of this timeline's version of 2020 Romney are not considering that, 2012 Romney in lieu of the Obama years would have never led to whoever this guy masquerading as a martyr is today. Just a thought.
