What inheritance? The moment a grandchild or any relative asked me about an inheritance would be the moment I told them it would be a short conversation because they are not getting one.

This whole thread could be retitled “My family member is about to spend a bunch of his money that we all think we should get.”

People lose their fricking minds when it comes to being “owed” an inheritance.

Is the dude in his right mind? If so, then leave him alone to do what he wants.

Eh, there comes a time where someone with significant wealth should address supporting future generations. It can be done without just dumping a bunch of money if their laps. It’s better than blowing it all on some whore.

to paraphrase the late Tug McGraw, when he recently signed a big contract with accompanying signing bonus and was asked what he did with his money, " ninety percent I'll spend on good times, women, and Irish whisky, the other ten per cent I'll probably waste"

This thread did not go the way the OP thought it would.

It’s his money. If he wants to spend it on a dime that is 22 years younger, he’s earned that.

Except it's not just "his" money. It's his and his dead wife's who spent a lifetime building those assets. What about what she wants? Oh, she's dead. Do you think she would want her husband blowing their life's work on some whore? Or passing it on to her children and grandchildren?

Seriously, if my father did this and was going to blow the family's money on some whore I'd kick him to the curb and disown him. Not because I want the money, I don't need the money. It would be out of principle for disrespecting my deceased mother in such a way.

i'm 56 and have a live-in 23 year old girlfriend. My family hates her but i truly don't care. It's my money to spend as I see fit. Anyone just waiting for a family member to die so they can get paid is one of the lowest forms of human scum in my opinion.

you are right. no one is really thinking about the deceased wife's wishes. I'm sure she would not want the young trick to end up with half of their family's assets.
The ho needs to know that the goods times only last while grandpa is still kicking. Won't be no wedding.

Its amazing how fricking stupid 50-something year old men act when a young succubus makes them believe they're into them

I'm a 51 year old widower in a good financial position. The money I've accrued is for my kids and my kids only. If it flies, floats, or fricks, I'll be renting from here on out.

Thers has been a lot of wealth redistributed from the last few years of an old person's life. Sometimes goldigger and sometimes sleazy family member or friend.

Point is, don't count your inheritance until the body is cold.

Then you should go ahead and get a lawyers to start that in motion now. The 80yo in OP likely wouldve said the same thing at 50. Things change.

My first wife passed away and I remarried 6 years ago. She's 5 years younger. I have assets but not wealthy by any means. She has some.

Deal is, we both have grown children. Both of us wanted a prenup. Why? To eliminate, or at least reduce, confusion after we both pass away. If there's children on one side only, it's still a good idea, but mandatory in our type of scenario.

BTW, she's an A-1 winner. We are happy.

My dad clearly hated his fam. Mom died and a year later he married a woman who was 40+ years younger than him and younger that all us kids. Fast forward, he died and she got 2 farms, 2 businesses, and a lake home.
We kids got zippo. Not even a mention in the will.

The one farm had been in the fam for well over 100 years.
