My first real job was the army, which pays a monthly salary. Seems like my first monthly paycheck as a buck private E1 was in the $400 ballpark after taxes. But that was almost 40 years ago.
My first civilian job came four years later as a warehouse worker. Staring pay was $5.50 an hour. Got my first raise only three months later, it was a whopping extra .05 cents per hour.

I was making 300 a week on fishing vessel at age 13 every summer till college.
After college I made 72k my first year in 2001

Navy in early 2000. E2 total paycheck around 400 to 500 twice a month
