What if you get cancer? Or in a car wreck? Youre a short sided fricker.

I'm in the same situation. Its cheaper for me to pay for my prescriptions outright then get insurance.

You're gambling, bruh, and the odds aren't in your favor.
You can get decent insurance pretty cheap, even at 38.
Costs of routine procedures are going up fast. You can look into insurance besides Obamacare. It might be time to consider it.

What was the $4000 bill for, the company out of Colorado provided what service?
To other posters, I've gotten separate bills for services this time and in the past. That's what the original $1200 bill included.
To the idiots calling me a bum, you don't pay for anything I get or do. You're paying for the people who pay nothing but get all of the same benefits as you - i.e. not me.

My dad's hospital bill just got denied. He was admitted thru the ER after having a stroke. It was denied due to not being pre-auth'd.

Tip: Never pay the hospital the day you come in.
Hospitals have a quota to meet in terms of how much payment on premise they receive from patients. The amount they are charging you is a made up, pulled out of thin air, number. They have no idea how much the procedure is, because they have not calculated the time, or expense done for that. So a tip from having to bring my son to the ER twice before the age of 1.
You don't have to pay the hospital if you have insurance, that day. They will try to get money out of you because they have to do it or the lady trying to charge you gets in trouble. They will even harass you until you do, especially if you have a lighter skin tone, or look like you have money. But, the hospital does not know how much to charge you at that time. That's why you have insurance. Hospital doesn't know how much coverage insurance provides, so why would you pay them? They bill the insurance company, insurance bills you.

Sounds fishy. This should be paid and cleared up easily.

Why didn't you go to the doctor's office?

None of this happened when I broke my hand 2 years ago and went to the same ER. How much does the new system open up the gates for this type of thing?

Then you don't need a lawyer.

Yea...no. If you happen to get into an accident or have a major injury or illness with no insurance and you will never recover financially. I may as well never have car insurance or homeowners either right?

bviously, these people are completely full of shite. Has anyone else ever experienced this? The ER was Lafayette General, btw.
No, but I'm sure that's what my insurance company does all day. Negotiate what will be paid and not.
Get some.

Not sure, tbh.
It's gonna get worse before it gets better.

On that note, isn't it a law that you must have "insurance" even if it is that Obamacrap?

We're working with the hospital now. They've been really good about it. And they contacted his insurance when he came into the ER, so if there was a problem, we should have been told immediately.

Insured patients deal with that kind of crap all the time.
You'll magically get a bill months after the fact.

America's health care system is fricked up, but you either play the game or get fricked over eventually.
It's the way the system is currently set up so either deal with it and pay premiums or get knocked for an unexpected few thousand dollars every once in awhile.
