Right. Go ahead. Self insure. I dare you.

This right here is why Obamacare won't work in its present state. Folks are allowed to self insure their boo boo and then when they get cancer or break 29 bones they want insurance.

A retired trucker is the exact reason why a pre-existing condition exclusion was added to policies.

You also are unaware that insurance premiums are a financing mechanism for folks that do not have the discipline to save money and actually self insure. Forget the large losses. Most folks would spend money on rims rather than put $100 a month in an account dedicated to their health and well being.

Oh, those without insurance, do you think they get their check ups annually or not? What long term affect does that have on ones health?

You're full of shite! I'm 100% covered and now and then I have to fight doctors or hospitals for bullshite billing. The problem is that they are way to many hands in the pot and nobody talks to each other.

I went to an ER in Troy, AL and told them I was just going to pay for it. They asked me if I had broken my finger and I told them no and declined the xray.

After waiting for 4 hours, I finally went back and waited another 2 hours in the back. When the doctor finally came in, the xray guy followed him in and the doctor immediately left again and went to lunch. I had to wait another hour and they still insisted I get xrays.

After all this shite, I went up to settle up and they told me it was 800 bucks. I asked them if that was everything and they told me yes. Got a bill from the doctor 2 weeks later for another 150 or 200 and I called and asked them about it, they told me that the doctor bills separate from them and that I need to pay that. I asked them if that was all the bills I would see and they told me yes again. Another 2 weeks later I got a bill for another 200 for xrays. I called them and told them they could kiss my arse that I declined xrays and they insisted. Never heard from them again.

We the taxpayers will certainly be paying when you have critical injuries or need long term care without insurance. We will be footing the bill because your ignorant arse didn't get insurance and you will be a freeloader.

Hold on it's a bar right you make money selling drinks and possibly food in providing an atmosphere where this is comfortable.

The problem is that there are very few providers that get into trouble for balance billing.

If you feel that you are being balance billed then you need to contact your insurance company to see if that's the case and then have the stop the provider.

I'd also report the provider to the proper state agency where you live.

There's no way to know how much money providers steal from their patients accidentally, accidentally on purpose or just plain on purpose.

So many people see a bill and just stroke a check. All the provider has to do if they are caught is to claim administrative error and pay back the money. If they aren't caught, well, they keep the money. There needs to be penalties and stiff ones for this practice to make them get their shite straight.

You're better off going to an urgent care facility over an ER unless you have a GSW or a heart attack.

If you are having chest pains or sudden or severe abdominal pain urgent cares usually are just gonna tell you to go to the ER fwiw.

The real people who get screwed over are the ones with insurance. Cash pay patients get an "uninsured discount." They bill way more to people with insurance. The insurance pays the allowable. The patients pay their portion. And the rest is written off by the hospital at the end of the year, resulting in a big tax break but poorer healthcare.

I have a large group BC/BS of Texas plan through work on my son and me which I pay $245.00 a month for (not bad).

Problem is until I spend $2,500 it doesn't jack.

Of course it would cover me for a major event.

You can get an Individual plan with a high deductible to CYA. ($5,000 /$10,000 etc)

The trend in cost shifting to the patient has been going on for years. It's an effort to keep premiums low.

You have to think about it this way. There's a bucket of money that must be dumped out at the time of a claim. The only thing that changes is when that bucket gets filled and who fills it.

In your case, you fill the bucket up at the doctor's office until you meet your deductible. The trade off is lower premium.

Your premium plus your copayment/deductible fills the bucket.

You used to be able to pay more in premium and put money into the bucket ahead of time. Those days are getting few and far between.

No matter what though, the bucket is getting filled and dumped.
