Im glad you are in the 30%-40% of responsible pts that pay for their portion of the ER visits. A new pt cash visit with in office reduction and splinting would have cost you about 150 or less, or 250 or less if they did an xray. Maybe even less than that if you paid cash in full at the visit.
Follow up visits would cost 75 or less cash at the door.

He doesn't have insurance. I'm guessing that losing a stellar credit rating isn't on his list of things to have to worry about.

Medical bills should not have any effect on your credit rating....unless things have changed...

if you are normal healthy
you can save tons by paying yourself...not some insurance company.
so when the crap does hit the fan, you dip into that kitty and pay the freight...
but lots of folks are too scared to take that risk
and would be too tempted to take from the thi kitty to buy something worthless

You will be penalized for not having insurance. From what I gathered from people like the OP you will only be penalized around $200. Which is cheaper than 1 year worth of premiums.
