For those old enough: Is Baton Rouge Safer?

In the 20's
Now the big question is it safer or worse but has social media made it seem one particular way? Personally I feel it is safer but I feel everything is blown out of proportion because social media and the fact that every indiscretion is now online .

Not safer, a lot of neighborhoods in Baton Rouge that were good in the 80s have gone to shite.

I just went and got gas and I did not feel safe. Exxon at Perkins and Essen after the pump at Perkins and college didn’t work.

I mean I feel it is safer, crime stats are down but I feel social media has publicized things so much

Very few cities with a high concentration of black people if any were safer in the '80s and early '90s than they are today, all because of crack cocaine.
I can only imagine what the first segment of the Baton Rouge local network news channels were like back then.

I lived in BR from 2011 to 2024. The only time I ever felt unsafe was the first year I moved there and stayed in a condo while my house was being built. The condo was North of I-12.
I think most of where I lived is now St George but I enjoyed my time there. I’ve lived around the country but Louisiana is a special place to me and I do miss it.

Not sure about safer but from around 2003 to let’s say 2014 it was safe. Definitely a more positive vibe overall.
During this timeframe Third Street and downtown saw a boom in restaurants and bars. The nightlife was great and people enjoyed going to downtown. The Bulldog was fairly new and always had a fun atmosphere. Sullivan’s and Fox and Hound were always busy with people having a good time.
Perkins Rowe was also thriving at the time. I believed it opened around 2006 or so.
Great times for the city. I feel after 2014 the city never was the same and is unfortunately on a downward trajectory.
