NBR driving around at all hours of the day/night looking to victimize, is a major problem.

The city at one time wanted to add a tram system Feeding NBR to LSU at one point

I lived in BR pre and post Katrina (left in OCT), ATL a few months after Katrina, and IAH a few years removed. I was witness to the flood of MSY refugees that turned already bad Baton Rouge traffic into a Gordian knot, the people spending $3k in FEMA cards at Joseph A Bank, and the complaints about crime influx in IAH a few years later. But continue being progressive.

They're still doing it (connecting NBR to LSU) via Bus Rapid Transit along Nicholson. LINK

Man, I can remember Lobdell, Wooddale, Flannery, North Sherwood, most of Greenwell Springs Rd all being thriving communities. Plank Road used to not be a no-go zone. They are all shitholes now, and all of this happened in my lifetime.

Obviously I’m getting old. Lived in Goodwood when it was “old.” But I remember Sherwood Forest being wealthy and surrounding areas nice. Then through the years little by little I could see the change in Sherwood. Same with Monticello in Greenwell Springs: The move in began and those there moved out.

Crazy as it sounds, but the Gardere area used to be okay. Decemt apartments and pretty safe.
is it time for my Gardere story again?

And it's a pre-Katrina story too!

Well, Baton Rouge is certainly a shithole now.

Really, it was probably already a shithole 40 years ago

Muh crime stats!!! Fallguy, you’ve lived in BR for 50 years and can see with your own eyes that vast swaths of the city are now ghetto, including areas right around campus. Shootings at the mall now. But CRIME STATS says you’re hallucinating.

Meanwhile, the rest of us understand that crime is vastly underreported. Dead bodies are tallied but murder is not the only crime out there. As the ghetto spreads so does petty crime. When your car is broken into in BR or Nola, as it doubtless has been, do you even call the cops? I didn’t. Why bother? If the ghetto is spreading, which our eyes can see it is, then crime is spreading. It’s really that simple.

Yeah but did you see the crime stats?! we’re safer now even though the ghetto has visibly spread.

Shut up you dumb twat. If the ghetto is spreading, which we can obviously see it has, then crime is also spreading. You don’t realize it, bc you’re retarded, but murder is not the only crime.

And all your retard-rage fueled bluster, you don’t even make the point you think you did

Number of murders are up compared to 1980-1998

90 & 91(peak crack era)- murder in south BR was almost non existent.

2021- 149 murders....but only 15 in south BR

quote:

in tigerland in the section 8 stuff

So there are now more murders overall, murders in South BR now, and section 8 in tigerland where there used to not be any. Yeah great fricking job.

Just come on out and say it. Integration has hurt both black communities and white communities.

Not safer, a lot of neighborhoods in Baton Rouge that were good in the 80s have gone to shite.

Yeah, I don't have stats to back me up on this and certainly social media puts a spotlight on every crime and bad circumstance that maybe was always happening we just were not aware of the extent.

However, it seems to me from just the eye test that the number of good or more safe neighborhoods in Baton Rouge are fewer and fewer as the years go by. There are several neighborhoods in the 80's that I would feel safe walking in at night then, that I would not now.

so you cant fricking read dumbass? but you have the audacity to call me a retard and a dumb twat?

you mean you missed this

quote:

depends on how you want to look at it. Number of murders are up compared to 1980-1998 but the actual murder rate is down. Same holds true for violent crime rate

like i said dumbass...overall numbers are up, but the rate is down compared to the crack era

and you mean where i stated the "murder triangle" is essentially responsible for 80%+ of all murders in BR?

and yea there is more section 8 in tigerland than before...but there are way less ghetto areas along gardier and in the bottoms. all that area is way less ghetto than it was in the 90s.

as far as the ghetto spreading, well as white flite occurs to the out lying parishes and St george areas...someone is going to buy that property. its not really spreading, though as the stats show

nobody had a "retard-rage fueled bluster" god forbid someone provide actual numbers to something. I know math is hard for you and all.

now go frick yourself bitch

In the 80's and 90's you knew where the crime was since the 2000 the crime can randomly happen everywhere. the sherwood forest area and siegen area crime has really expanded to areas that were nice neighborhoods now are run down and crime infested

You should join all the white flighters in Livingston or Ascension, if your anecdotal evidence outweighs actual statistics. Or St George, as a baby step. When the evidence doesn’t support you, just make shite up!

Since Katrina, decline

I'm in general agreement about decline but think the timing may be a coincidence.

A couple of decades ago a LSU Sociologist/demographer reported that BTR was experiencing a surge in illegitimate births, and when those single parent kids became old teens and young adults crime would also surge.

He must have retired or been told to shut up, but he may have been right.

The history of my family going to LSU is over. No one feels safe sending their kids to BR.
