yea that area turned around 1990 when it changed from lower working class to big time poverty as white flite intensified and whites fled due to rises in non murder violence and lots of robberies.
and i mentioned the mirage villa apartments. thats the main bad area now
that whole area sits dead center of the murder triangle
The Western Point: Anchored along the I-110 Corridor and downtown.
The Eastern Point: Stretches east to Flannery Road and the Windsor Place area.
The Northern Boundary: Governed by Greenwell Springs Road.
The Southern Base: Formed directly by Florida Boulevard
~80% of all murders in EBR happen in that triangle.

those once great hoods are no longer great because the people that lived there that made them great moved to better areas. it was backfilled with trash.
aka white flite. been happening for decades and will continue to happen. as people become more prosperous they upgrade to better living conditions. Tale as old as time
but it hasnt spread. 80% of murder happen in the little murder triangle part of the city. you may feel like it has spread...but it hasnt.

Some of those places would still be good areas albeit more working class than the upscale places if they wouldn't have forced the bussing issue

There were bad areas, but everyone knew where they were and there was very little bleedover. Pretty much all south of Florida Blvd was fine, and a number of areas between Florida and Choctaw (east of Airline) were fine.
Broadmoor/Sherwood Forest
Parkforest
Villa Del Rey
were desirable places to live. Gardere/Bayou Fountain was LSU students and blue collar folks.
There were bad areas, but everyone knew where they were and there was very little bleedover. Pretty much all south of Florida Blvd was fine, and a number of areas between Florida and Choctaw (east of Airline) were fine.

Certain areas were safer but have evolved into crap holes over time. The Sherwood area used to be fairly nice but it’s a borderline homeless camp now. Crazy as it sounds, but the Gardere area used to be okay. Decemt apartments and pretty safe.

Baton Rouge has much higher crime now than it did in the 80s and 90s. It's also spread out to formerly decent areas.
The 5 highest murder totals in the city's history have all occurred since 2017. The population is also relatively unchanged since the 1980s. The metro has grown, the city has not.

I’m in MidCity, btw BRMHS and Catholic. Never been a victim of crime. Seems safer than Baker, where I spent the early 80s.
Most of the people bitching about crime live in Livingston or Prairieville, white fighters.

We live in the city limits, and I have lived in the metro for almost 50 years. It's objectively more dangerous than it was 30-40 years ago.

In general, no - but it really depends on the area. If we can contain the North Baton Rouge'ites to their territory and keep them out of St George that would be great.
