Im not saying this was the case, but I have been to false river a few times and I am surprised there are not more accidents. Of course when I went it was a 4th of july weekend and there are a lot more people on the water, but some people get on the water and they become completely unaware.

That’s true just about everywhere but False River gets especially dangerous after dark with people taking boats back to their camps after drinking

Curious, Is this river pronounced "false" as in opposite of true? Or some weird French way like "Fah SAY"?
False like 99% of what CNN publishes

Whether or not he was responsible for the accident a prudent person with a wife and kids would not be boating at night on a dangerous waterway. Its irrelevant if his boat was equipped with lighting when another boat was not so equipped. Its fortunate this family did not lose two people.

It was a night fishing tournament from what I've learned.

I can remember just skiing on False River in the’80’s being really scary with the amount of boat traffic on a busy weekend. Being down and waiting for the boat to turn around to come back to you felt like an eternity.

Prayers for these families.

Too many people have the idea that drinking while operating a boat is not a problem, the authorities need to crack down on this, and make the penalty severe.

Don't know who was at fault but in my experience bass boats drive way too fast. Like little speedboats that are super low to the water

The penalty for operating a boat while intoxicated are the same as a vehicle but societal mindset is complete different. No one bats an eye about everyone (including driver) to be having a beer on a party barge but would be super pissed about their tour van driver having a beer while sight seeing. It’s more accepted on the water but twice as dangerous.

So what? That does not create immunity from reckless behavior and negligent action. Boating at night puts you and your family's well being and security at risk. Its poor decision making.

There should be much more stringent rules to owning or operating a boat. I've seen far too many complete retards driving up and down the Diversion and Tickfaw who have no idea what they're doing whatsoever.

Honestly I'm surprised there aren't multiple fatal accidents on Louisiana waterways every weekend.

Kind of strange reporting there. It's possible the bass boat is as long or longer than the vessel, whatever that is.

Being on the water at night is a whole different animal. Best not to do it public waterways in most locations.

We used to do some crazy late night alcohol & weed induced stuff on False River, skinny dipping, naked water skiing and not using the lights on the boat. Also late night fished quite a bit using lights. Not proud of that stupidity, but was extremely lucky to not hurt anyone or get hurt.

Was riding in my buddies bass boat once doing about 60 and our other buddy came so close in his boat that the boats grazed each other. That was scary as shite. This was during the daylight, nothing bad happened, but only because the good lord wasn't ready for us yet. Many more stories, glad I survived those days.

It sounded like they hit pretty much head head on and the other boat went straight over the bass boat

Yep. We rarely even get out in the lake on summer weekends anymore because there are so many idiots out there.
