Prayers to those families. Stay safe out there, y’all.

Authorities shut down boating traffic on False River during a busy pre-summer weekend after a head-on collision between a bass boat and a 20-foot vessel left one person dead and another missing, the Point Coupee Sheriff's Office said.

Pointe Coupee Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux said rescue crews were still searching midday Saturday for the operator of the bass boat, which collided with the 20-foot vessel near the unincorporated Dupont area shortly before 10:30 p.m. Friday.

Rescuers found the body of the vessels operator, 31-year-old Fordoche resident Shea Mouton, in the river shortly after the collision.

Curious,
Is this river pronounced "false" as in opposite of true?
Or some weird French way like "Fah SAY"?

False as in not true. And it’s not a river, it’s an oxbow lake.

No. It’s false. It was once part of the Mississippi River. It’s an oxbow shaped lake now.

Just false-like the opposite of true.

That is awful. As I have gotten older boating at night just isn't worth it anymore. Too much can happen that you just can't see until it is too late.

Out here right now on the dock, rivers still closed. Saw a helicopter running the banks a few hours ago but mostly search boats now

If there is decent weather, pleasure boat and fishing boat traffic has been heavy on False River.

On the Diversion, I bet 1 in 5 boats under 20' run with no lights at night.

I wonder whatever became of that case?

You're thinking of Lake Fausse Point near St. Martinville.
