Yep. I get everyone to financially commit. If they don’t then I don’t count on them as actually going.

The other people esp who couldn’t get time off shouldn’t have agreed to come until that was confirmed

Sounds like nobody wanted to go with you on your trip, and they made a bunch of excuses to get out of it.

I feel you. However I’ll add this. A few years back, I had the great idea of treating my family to Disney. My mom, sister, brother and I account for 18 so rented 3 rv’s at wilderness campground. We were there for a week and aside for dinner and breakfast we never saw each other. So my grand idea of hanging with family the whole week turned into something very different. So even when it seems to work out, sometimes it doesn’t.

We have golf trips this happens with. Family stuff happens but not being able to get off work is a lame excuse. The only time I’ve had to cancel a trip because of work is when hurricane ida was coming towards us. Instead of golfing for the weekend we had to prep our yard and get out of there.

Covid fricked up our honeymoon and completely altered our wedding. My wife let it get to her one night, but otherwise handled it well.

Same for us. And to top it off we walk into our rehersal to find the church is totally under construction with scaffold everywhere. I thought my wife was going to meltdown but she laughed and somehow we moved the wedding to a new church and notified everyone in one day. Then it poured down rain on our wedding day and ruined the second line. She laughed at that too.

Point is you can make all the grandest plans in the world but shite happens. Enjoy the time with the people who will be there. You can’t get it back.

Planned a similar trip in the summer of 2013 and the same type of thing happened. We all went anyway, including mom who seemed perfectly healthy for her age (70's). Lots of family missed all or some of the week but we made the most of it. About a month after the trip we found out mom had cancer and she passed away 4 months after the trip. I had considered cancelling before we had even gone, but now I look back at that week with mom as one of the best weeks of my life and I rest a little easier knowing she got that week with her kids and grandkids.

Which mountains? I'll come drink a few as long as it isn't Bud Light.

People bailing because they can't get the time off are just making excuses. They had plenty of time and shouldn't have committed if getting time off is that difficult.

He had scheduled his vacation on the wrong week.

My wife did this one. It now doesn’t shock me at all.

Worst one (well second worse now that I think about it) I know of is a group of guys who go on an annual ski trip. This particular year, to Whistler. They land in Vancouver and Canadian passport control people won’t let him in due to a DUI he’d gotten in college.

I’d forgotten that the same thing happened to me in Costa Rica except because my passport was tattered on a corner. Apparently CR had just started cracking down on passport control. And yeah it was my honeymoon. And my friend had blocked off his house there for us for 10 days. I had blocked that and the ensuing disaster of a marriage from my memory.

Trip to Cabo. Probably 2007-2008?

Watched the NHC website as a Hurricane rolled toward it. I gave up when it got to a Category 3. We ended up in Cancun again. Would have been cool to watch but a nightmare. It weakened to a strong Category 1 but it rolled right over the hotel zone in Cabo. The eye went over what was going to be our hotel.

Shoot me your address. I’ll send my kids your way. It’ll be nice to have a weekend alone.
