It might end up being the best vacation you ever have in your life. Just go with an open mind and try to enjoy whatever happens.
That's the plan at the moment. Soldier through. We'll be there. Who can come, comes. Who can't, I'll live. I bought a proper journal for the trip. I'm going to write, enjoy the pool and hot tub, hike. Gonna make memories. Can't get the time or deposit back at this point.
Money is spent, and if I have to pay for the whole damn trip myself, oh well (I won't but I've budgeted enough).
Really, really Missing my brother tonight. He would have been there. Still hurts. He would have loved this.
Should be three sticks. But there's only two.

So 14 has dwindled down to 5 for possibly most of the trip.
In the English language we call this a “blessing”.

Okay. They can blame you. So what? Tell them you had good intentions and it didn't work. Get over it. You got to make the best of it and don't worry what everyone else will think or say. Tell them next time they can make the plans.

It is seldom i upvote an OweO post. This is one of those times.
I'm going to write out something on this trip I've been working on in my head. About a pub called "The Tiger and Chicken." And there's a character in there with wooden arms and, well, I haven't yet worked out what awful thing he'll have for legs. And everyone hates him because he's terrible...but even he might find some redemption.
I think that's what I'm searching for in the mountains. Something with some elevation. Out of this swamp.
Oosh meleen aga. Peace on your journey

Covid fricked up our honeymoon and completely altered our wedding. My wife let it get to her one night, but otherwise handled it well.
3 years later, we are planning a portion of that honeymoon. We will be leaving in a couple of weeks. It includes eastern Canada and some of NE. I’ve stated in other threads that I will lose my shite if the wildfires wreak havoc upon our vacation. I know it’s a selfish viewpoint, but it is what it is.

When it comes to your free time, cherish it. Do that even if the plans have changed.
You don’t get that time back. Great memories can come from some unexpected changes. I’m VERY selfish with my time off.

Ain't it some shite though? You're responsible, have a job, pay bills, make plans...and there's a never ending stream of bullshite in your way. At this point I don't even care if I HAVE a job when I come back. Haven't had a COL raise since...ever. I'm well fricked. Just need to get away. Into free, high air. Away from here.
I've got the wanderlust again

I understand this and have been there. Did it cost you extra money or was it nonrefundable for those who backed out? Gotta get the money up front. Those who go will still have fun. You could also maybe invite more people even though it's last minute. Spontaneity can be fun.

I’ve felt this way many times. You should check out the thread I started several months ago and just bumped. I value my time above all else, obviously lumped in with family. I’ve missed out on too many things, and I’m not the one with kids…yet.
I’m finally looking forward to being able to take a small trip or getaway now when it’s not peak traveling season.

Fr33, enjoy your time with family, period. Enjoy your time away from the daily grind too
A large family outing will happen eventually

It was gonna be split 4 ways. Wasn't gonna ask cousins coming in on the end to pay and won't. 3 ways instead of 4, whatever. Ain't about the money. I've worked more OT and weekends that at this point I don't give a smidgen of a shite. I've earned this. Went home soaked to the bone today because I'm the one they call when the chips are down and shite doesn't work, not that it's done me a lick of good.
I don't care anymore. I'm taking vacation and if it all goes to shite while I'm gone, oh fricking well. I'm done. Spent. Had it.
If I don't have a job when I'm back, good. I'll find a new one. Dead end as it is.
I show up every day and these last three pissant raises have been slaps in the face.
I need something better.

I’d hate to have that mindset and follow through, but only you know your security and what you’ve gone through. At the end of the day, you live this life once. Enjoy it.

Post the empty space you have on couchsurfing.com and then return to the OT with stories about your house guests.
We’ll wait.

You need a fill in, I could use a vacation. No complaining, & I'll give you all the credit. Address?

I'd rather pay for empty house than have a little more coin for unexpected bullshite. If kids weren't involved it would be one thing and I'd invite (no offense) some of you degenerate bastards (there's a trip, eh). But I just want some peace and quiet at this point.
And some proper hide and seek! Big empty house, perfect for it.
ETA and now this stupid cat just tore the hell out my ship!

I try to make people financially commit in same way in advance so if they dip then they're screwing themselves

Sounds good! I’ve planned trips and when people have dropped… it’s always a bummer. However, during/after the trip, I always feel like I couldn’t have imagined those people being there. In the end, it works out for the better.
Also if an alien spaceship crashes around where you’re staying, please remember to get video of it. Thanks in advance.

You’re going to get to that big badass house on the lake and not even worry about anything else.
