I worked at a place that didn't test. They got a new insurance provider that required them to start testing all employees.

They sent out a letter stating all employees would be drug tested on a certain day. That day came around, everyone got tested and 37 out of 114 people failed. They called all of them into the office and told them they were testing them all again in 2 weeks to get clean or they would be fired. Out of those 37, 7 of them failed again. They called all of them into the office and asked them why they couldn't pass a drug screen. 1 dude told them $14 wasn't enough to make him stop smoking weed, they asked how much it would take to make him stop, he told them $17. They gave him a raise and he still failed the next drug random drug screen.

Anyone who does any type of DOT compliant work are required to be drug tested. Who would that be, you may ask. Anyone who does work that involves construction of or control of oil or gas pipelines. As a result, virtually all oil and gas companies that operate on Federal leases (any platform operating more than 3 miles of the coast of Louisiana) generally require random testing for themselves and their contractors.

As a result, even catering companies generally have a drug testing program - pre-employment at least. They have a much higher than average failure rate in that sector, I believe

Job security for me.

I would bet that 99 % of the failed tests were for pot.

I see this a lot but the reality is that the current legislation that was passed requiring testing for specific DOT related jobs was the result of an Amtrak/freight train collision in Marilyn. The frieght engineer and brakeman missed a signal (probably more than one)and failed to stop in time. Subsequently, both, tested positive for marijuana.

In my experience, the guys that work for me that I know probably smoke, are among the best workers I got. They aren't high when they are here, or else I'd test them and fire them. They also know if any accident happens, they are definitely getting tested. Otherwise, I don't really give a shite what they do when they go home and I don't care what they did within the last month, pretty worthless info to me. I've fired 1 person in the last 2 yrs for showing up high on what I suspected to be weed; and yes you can certainly tell....and if you think you can't, then the drug must not being inhibiting them much huh?

Fired another guy that came in zombie mode one day, and his coworkers told me he smokes synthetic marijuana. He was moving around at like 1/20th normal speed like sleep walking almost, it was the freakiest thing I'e ever seen. Told him to go take a drug test or leave, and he asked when he could come get his check. I'm not even sure if a urine test will catch synthetic marijuana either.

It's the alcoholics I'm wary of, they tend to have short tempers and miss days at a time. Whenever a new hire starts talking about "the bar" on a weekly basis, I know it's only a matter of time until they miss a block of days and I have to fire them, also alcohol has a thing called a hangover, so even if they drink the night before, they are still having effects the next day and it's hard to tell if they are sick or hungover. Alcohol is way more of a problem to me.

Mostly all of my guys make between $10-15 an hour doing manual labor to give you an idea of the demo, and the door revolves very fast.

What is wrong with an employer presuming someone with THC in their system is currently high? The burden of proof in such circumstances should be on the employee to prove they are not high. If the employer were to be sued for actions of an employee who tests positive for THC the employer would have the same burden. It is only right that the employer be able to pass the burden to employees as a means of self-protection.

This is a real problem in the construction industry. There is such a huge demand for tradesmen, and there are not enough who can be relied on to show up to work every day, perform quality work, and not fail a drug test.

I have had three guys in the past week fail, come into my office and ask me if they could still come to work. The ones that don't fail can't make it a week before leaving. This labor market sucks.

Smoked for my entire adult life and also never failed a drug test. Easy to do if you know some basic tricks and who to make friends with.

It all depends on the type of work being done.

If it's a workplace safety issues (such as at a plant, construction, etc...) then that's one thing.

If you're pushing papers in a cubicle, then what is really the point? It's a waste of time and money for the employer to fire and hire solely due to pot use. If the employee sucks at his job, he probably just sucks and it's not the pot that is making him suck. If the employee is good, then why spend time and money testing, firing, hiring, and training someone new?

Lolololol. All companies break regs and laws. Even their own. They do care to know if what you're doing affects them any.

Reminds me of When Chrysler hired in 1994-95.

they had thousands of apps, and i was in offices to get some health care stuff and there was a list on a desk, i asked HR guy(i knew him) if that was the new people getting hired, he said no, that the list that couldnt pass a pee test.

almost 2,000 fails

I laughed, he was just dumb founded, especially when they knew 2 weeks in advance of the testing.

The U.S. military is having the same problem. Besides failed drug tests, millennials tend to be fat and out of shape, have criminal records and are too dumb to pass the ASVAB.

The latest I saw was that 75 percent of Americans of fighting age would be ineligible for the military. Of course, the government's answer would be to lower standards.

What a world that liberalism has wrought.

And what a dumbass the world has produced if you blame these broad, sweeping generalizations on one side of the political spectrum.

For those that are clean and sober all the time. Passing the drug test seem like a no-brianer and so easy a retarded diabetic squirrel could do it. Yet... I watch so many people FAIL it. So many people that seem to get their shite together, soccers moms, college grads that have all straight A gpa, hard working people, etc etc. It surprises me.

Surprisingly Indians (dot) and Asian rarely fail drug test.

Recently, we needed a new driver, and as i was heading out from one of our customers, i noticed a dude driving a bread truck.

I go over and say, hey, want a gig, getting 17 paid weeks off?(we havve 3 drivers for 2 spots, u work 2 on, 1 off, no weekends, less than 35 hours a week, paid 40). He says, ah man, u guys test for dope man. I said yeah, every 2 years for DOT test, not for work, he's like nawww man, u guys be piss testing.

I said ok, walked away, feeling i was on some troll show, and i was being super trolled. It's probably for the better, but man, he could fo smoked his brains out, with 17 paid weeks off.

Because they test for non-inhibiting metabolites that remain long after the user has sobered up.
