Drug Testing Employees

I personally have seen this. My employer had a job fair and was offering jobs on the spot assuming background and drug test. We had to pull back offers on 80% due to failed drug test.

So to combat this issue, we have stopped drug testing employees. Genius!

"Not" stopped, or "now" stopped?

This is a real problem in the construction industry. There is such a huge demand for tradesmen, and there are not enough who can be relied on to show up to work every day, perform quality work, and not fail a drug test.

Well you can't make people stop doing drugs and you need people to work so they really have no choice. It is simple economics.

I'd like to know if someone I'm hiring is okay with breaking laws.

If many employers tested here, probably half would fail. The only companies I know who test are safety sensitive or required by law or insurance.

Probably the kind where being fricked up can be a safety concern.

Mortgage Servicing company in Dallas.

It is still against the employee handbook and will test if there is "reasonable suspension". We have an office in Colorado and the memo going out said "Although recreational marijuana is legal in the state of Colorado it is still against company policy."

Unless you are flying planes or handling explosives, why should you have to pass a drug test?
