Nothing is more sad than the middle aged ‘regular’ at the local bar 4 nights out of the week over tipping the bartender half his age.

and yet, you will likely be him at some point.

I can walk to 4 bars in less than 5 minutes. One is 2 minutes from me.

Same here. I live in Mid-City and Mid-City Yacht Club is down the block from me. Then there's Bank St. Bar 3 blocks away, Beachcorner about 6 blocks away and Micks and Finn McCool's about 1/4 mile away.

I'd say there's no less than 10 bars within a mile radius of my house.

I still wanna bang Sarah McLachlin. That might be sad, too.

Oooh oooh ooooh, okay, so you bang her, in a pound, while she sings “arms of the angel”...

That’s like sadness cubed.

Probably a partial reason - Baptists drink, but they just don't want anyone else to see them except other blasphemers.

It's gotta be tough to hide your drinking from the church bitch eye shots in your back yard, while parking behind a dimly lit bar lets you sin in peace. The dim lighting also helps you hide from Jesus.

NOW you've hit on why New Orleans is so great. Still a bunch of neighborhood bars around. Some great names too like the one on Teche in Algiers, the "Something to talk about" lounge. The "Billionaires club bar". The "Behind the 8 ball" bar. The "Saturn" bar. etc...

People would rather drink in their own home. Personally I’d like to live in a place with a neighborhood bar

You are lucky.
And not a damn thing is trashy or negative about any of those places. Just cool arse places to hang out.
I guess it's hard for the downtown club hoppers or the suburban BWW/Applebees bar crowd to understand.

I’m wearing my BB Polo to protest both schools.

I love it!! There’s a neighborhood bar on just about every other block between the River and the Lake.
