I live in the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego, having a ton of bars around is not a good thing, trust me

That is an entertainment area. A cleaner version of the French Quarter. This thread is about having a bar that acts as the neighborhood's gathering place.

My grandma kept alcohol in the house and went to her spot for 2 hrs in the evening to meet her friends & shoot the shite.

On the other side, my grandparents always had alcohol, but lived out in the country & didn’t really go to bar rooms.

They're still pretty popular around here. Probably because most of the neighborhoods are older and the weather is shitty for much of the year. When you want to get out of the house and it's gloomy AF outside the bar becomes a more attractive choice.

Neither of my parents drank alcohol when we were kids, southern Baptist.

We went to church Sunday Morning, Sunday evening and Wednesday.

Social media happened. People went to socialize, talk to friends, meet the opposite sex, etc. Now, well, they don't have to leave their home to "socialize"

Agree. Martin's being that close is awesome. I have St James and The Wine Seller a block away

I'm jealous of your closeness to Creole

Breweries are the new neighborhood bars. There’s one in every town and always people there. It’s just evolved from a smoky dark dingy place to a well lit brewery with food trucks and board games.

Flying Tiger Brewery in Monroe is pretty cool.

Went there for the first time Friday night. The burger and fries were very good.

I'm at the neighborhood bar right now. The average age has to be pushing 55-60 range though.

Always liked Tams Tavern in Sherwood.

Restaurants also invested more in bar and lounge sections.

I never understood the kids who had to go to church twice on Sunday & on Wednesdays. I remember there was a baptise family in my neighborhood with kids around my age and the other kids use to always say "I am glad I don't go to your church". They didn't hang out with the rest of the kids as much as everyone else.

Glass, what are neighborhood bars in New Orleans? Would Fat Harry's count as one? Bruno's?

I think pretty much anything in the Quarter would be excluded.

As for the decline, since the 1940s, so many people moved out to master planned communities or at least residential neighborhoods with very few shops nearby other than a grocery store and gas station. There are exceptions to this like NYC, DC to an extent, and New Orleans, but not a ton.

Additionally, DUIs were rarely strictly enforced and the BAC threshold for getting a DUI was essentially double what is is now.

Henry’s, out in the cold, lots o luck, homedale inn, pal’s, kingpin, parasol’s, tracey’s, half moon. Fat harry’s and Bruno’s have adult regulars so they count.

Any place you can buy a quality gram off of a regular.
