Bars have gotten too expensive

You can get drunk at home for like $1

Finns Sunday Mornings as long as Arcenal isn’t playing is my happy place.

It’s so nice when there’s only 2 or 3 other people in there.

I just dont think it was ever really a thing for a family man like the OP is talking about

So is a "family" man supposed to just stay at home all non working hours with the wife and kids? I drink with a few doctors, lawyers, retirees, white collar guys down to the guy who owns his own plumbing company and all in between.
Nothing wrong with stopping for a beer on the way home from work sometimes or going to the bar to watch a game or something.

People would rather drink in their own home. Personally I’d like to live in a place with a neighborhood bar

You used to have the town pub, or public house The tavern.
There was no TV. No cell phones. There were no cans of beer. It came in wooden kegs. So the people of town congregated at the pub in order to have a drink, which the barkeep pulled off the tap. You’d play games there, pass the time, find some laugh and maybe a bit of jiggery-pokery from the local loose women.

It was a different world, but the concept remains and dies hard even though the world has moved on.

Life is better with other people to enjoy it with.

Also one of my favorite things about these kind of bars is that generally they have great bartenders. The kind who have a personality and remember your drinks, etc. Not the fat little pissed off woman who is mad she didn't get the shift she wanted and plays on her phone the whole time.

And many have great food as well.

Arcenal was playing last Sunday morning so I went to DMacs instead of Finns.

I’ve been there few times before but this time was different. Very cool alternative to check out.

Absolutely not. I do as well

But I didnt think we were talking about the occasional drink with friends here. Didnt really think that was the theme of the OP

from the op:

quote:

he told me back in the day most people didn’t even keep alcohol (beer or liquor) in the house... almost all drinking was done at the neighborhood bar he claims

But with young kids, I do most of my drinking at home. I cant be stopping at the neighborhood bar 3-4 times every week

I have a better selection than a lot of restaurant bars. I can make damn near any drink you could ask for. Very proud of it and I love entertaining my friends behind my bar

But can you help your friends with sage advice while wiping down the bar with a dirty towel?

Yeah I texted you when I drove by, you said it was crowed and you were with your son.

I kept driving and went to DMacs instead.

Ended up being a very long day/night. being that the Saints played at 3:30
