Talking to my great Uncle best friend( uncle passed away in ‘17)... he told me back in the day most people didn’t even keep alcohol (beer or liquor) in the house... almost all drinking was done at the neighborhood bar he claims...

Was this anybody’s else folks experience or was this just some NE Louisiana thing???

If so, what happened to the neighborhood bars???

got one by the end of my block... It's all old people that go there and play video poker... No one wants to be like (or end up as) the old lonely town drunks who are the regulars

I can walk to 4 bars in less than 5 minutes. One is 2 minutes from me.

Effectively.

With people moving out into the suburbs in fairly remote location, it meant that people were driving longer distances to drink rather than going to the place around the block.

That meant the decline of the neighborhood bar and the spike of DUIs.

I can drink beer in my underwear at home, which is apparently not acceptable in the vast majority of bars.

Why would millenials go to a neighborhood bar to screw around on their phone, when they can sit home and screw around on their phone?

Why not just have a bar in your house and have your friends drink there?

It’s taken more than a decade to collect, but sheer variety and quality, I have a better selection than a lot of restaurant bars. I can make damn near any drink you could ask for. Very proud of it and I love entertaining my friends behind my bar

More rigid enforcement and stiffer penalties for DUIs might curtail everyone from still getting wasted at bars. I live off Highland and I guess I consider Sammys or Georges my neighborhood bar.

I've got 4 within three blocks.

It's one of the sadder aspects of modern housing development how much the idea of these have been totally eschewed.
