Nothing is more sad than the middle aged ‘regular’ at the local bar 4 nights out of the week over tipping the bartender half his age.

It's one of the sadder aspects of modern housing development how much the idea of these have been totally eschewed.
all you hear about is the problems they bring... And think about the ones you know. No one who can ever be classified successful frequents these places.

Still going strong down this way. Maybe not as many as in the old days, but it's great to see little corner bars in neighborhoods.

Bernard's in Houma had the coldest beer I've ever had (in a bar). typical neighborhood bar. Long gone now tho, sadly.

that said, dad always- always- had beer in the fridge.

That's me. And Martin Wine Cellar is within an easy walk as well.

Love having a good local bar or two that I'm a regular and lots of the same people are there all the time with very very little turnover of bartenders.

How about those commercials with the trembling dogs and the Sarah McLachlin songs? Those are pretty sad.

I still wanna bang Sarah McLachlin. That might be sad, too.

Yeah, every one has their share of sad barfly losers, but they can still be great places for those who aren't to stroll down to occasionally. Plus, who knows what else the sad barfly losers would be doing if they all shut down - likely nothing productive, and possibly things much worse.

he told me back in the day most people didn’t even keep alcohol (beer or liquor) in the house... almost all drinking was done at the neighborhood bar he claims...

How far back you going? Prohibition?? Beer and whiskey was always in my house growing up...and my grandfathers

Agree. Martin's being that close is awesome. I have St James and The Wine Seller a block away.
