This comment makes no sense because it implies other groups don't do those same things. Yes, people who have funerals 2 days after death still have spaces, flowers, cars, food, etcc.

Clearly you haven’t ever been to a big funeral put on by a black family if you aren’t grasping what I am talking about. No one is saying other people don’t have cars and flowers. The point was that the blacks do it at an entirely different level. Check some YouTube videos. It’s like a wedding or Quinceañera level of event.

The only holdup is either the family making arrangements or if the coroner feels the need to an autopsy.

In my experience it was 3-4 days and half of that was mostly letting family figure out travel and/or waiting till the weekend so work PTO was less of an issue.

1. Respect for the human body - Catholic teaching views the body as an integral part of the human person, not simply something discarded after death. This continues even after cremation.

I can kind of see this.

2. Belief in the resurrection - Catholics believe in the resurrection of the body. Keeping the remains in a specific place reinforces the belief that death isn’t the final end of the person.

He created a person from nothing and is capable of anything, resurrecting a cremated body whether their ashes are in one spot or 5 is not a problem. That's ridiculous.

quote:

3. A permanent place for remembrance - A grave, mausoleum, or approved columbarium gives family and the broader Christian community a place to pray and remember the deceased.

Not true. That literally one of the benefits of cremation. It doesn't tie a loved on to a certain place because of death. We have a friend that will never move from her hometown because that's where her first husband was buried. Being able to have a loved one with you whever you go is a much easier way to have remembrance.

4. Avoiding the idea that the deceased has simply “become part of nature” - The Church specifically objects to practices such as scattering ashes in the air, on the ocean, or across a favorite location because they can express a view of death that conflicts with Christian belief—for example, that the deceased has simply merged with nature.

And for those like myself that have never once thought that their loved ones cremated ashes that were spread are now "part of nature"?

Gotta have that leg quarter with green beans and rice dressing meal, and a slice of cake. Eat good before the drinking and partying starts happening.

Going to a funeral to understand how big the event is has nothing to do with not planning the big event until after the death. The point is that some don't plan the big event ahead of time which causes a longer wait period.

This quote is from a Black Funeral Traditions/ Customs article:

"After the immediate moment of mourning, planning begins. Black funerals are a true celebration of life. From the program, music and remarks to flowers, decor and food, a great deal goes into planning, and the details are as elaborate as budget allows."

Having a big event + not planning the big event ahead of time = longer wait period.

I'm sure less booking windows due to a larger population is a big driver here too but your point about a big event is somewhat irrelevant considering others have big events and just have them planned ahead of time.

Sorry for your loss

you know a good business would be an affordable way a family could handle this . Unfortunately, there are a lot of unaffordable ways to do it because the business is taking advantage of a family's grief and the suddenness

And also the funeral industry has put all sorts of laws on the books by lobbying government to make it unaffordable

again, sorry for your loss

I don't have to,my family don't have to, worry about the high cost of funeral or cremation or the stress of it. I did all the paperwork with LSU Faces Lab , my body goes to science after I die. They come pick me up, my family sets up a service somewhere, and whatever they can use of my organs they will and do whatever studies on me that they do
