quote:I had an uncle pass the 3rd week of May this year, my aunt & cousins delayed his graveside memorial until mid-July. He was cremated and arrangements & expenses were paid many years in advance. We have no idea why the hell they waited to have the graveside in the brutal heat of July when the man was cremated?
I've noticed a trend where the person is cremated and the ceremony/rememberance is held a month or three later. I like that it gives people time to make plans to travel and be there. Also eases the stress on immediate family to prepare for a funeral.
I haven't found the nerve to ask my cousin what the hell they were thinking in that planning.

I don’t know, but my MIL died on Monday of this week and her funeral is this Saturday. It was the day the worked best schedule wise. Also, there is a mandatory waiting period for those choosing cremation, but I think it’s 24-48 hours depending on the state. I think a good change brought about by Covid was that funerals are all in one day now. No multiple visitation days before the actual service.

Some recent experiences have made me want to delay any funeral I'll have a part in planning for about a week.
When a family member died unexpectedly a few years ago, it really struck me how the spouse was immediately hit with a flood of questions about arrangements because everything had to be decided right now, while the spouse was still emotionally devastated.
I haven't laid out a written plan for my funeral arrangements, but I fully intend to, down to the smallest details. I never want my wife to experience what I watched that person go through while mourning.

I’m so very sorry for your loss of your son.
