If you really want that job consider Prairieville as others are saying. In. I way would commuting I-12 be worth it. To me, anyway. What’s wrong with Covington elementary school(s)? Since you mentioned.

As someone who commuted from Hammond to BR for 15 years I would strongly recommend against the Covington-to-BR hike. Of course I worked downtown, but 12 becomes a nightmare by the time you reach Denham. It’s been a few years since I commuted that way, so maybe others can tell you if it’s any better and what Airline looks like during commute hours.

Work schedule matters, but my M-F 9-to-5 commute from/to Hammond was closer to 3 hours/day, and God forbid you get behind an accident.

My advice is to find an area of Ascension you like best and move there. My brother and his family live in Geismar and sent his oldest to Dutchtown. The other two went to St. Michael’s, but I don’t think it was because of any bad experiences at DT.

Why the hell would you stay in LA once your kids are out of school. I say this as someone who just moved back to LA. Granted my kids are young and both our families are here.

I'd also vote for moving out of La., if your family is not here.

Tell them to relocate to Covington and you’ll take the job.

I really appreciate all y’all. Sincerely, it’s good to bounce ideas off this wild house for the banter and genuine comments.

Covington Elementary is great but we’re getting a lot of bad reviews from friends and neighbors about the middle school. Junior high and high school aren’t that great, either.

Plus, job would be an upgrade. Schools rated better. Kids are kindergarten and second grade.

Commute would be beyond brutal from here. Northshore is still full. I think I know what I need to do. Look out for my real estate thread one day soon for more wisdom. Prayers appreciated.

Job would be near Industriplex Blvd.
I make the commute from Galvez Lake area of Prairieville to just past Industriplex (17 miles) and it’s 25 minutes in the morning and 40 in the afternoon. Any time I am tempted to try another route than Airline Hwy I regret it immediately. I used to live off Perkins at Bluff and it was 15 minutes tops.

It’s a big move. Covington proper is cool, just getting too crowded and unfortunately that will affect the schools. Thank you for answering my question. My grand will be 3 next year and it will be time to move her from her prek she’s in.now to a private prek if they go private school, if there’s a good one there. They’d moved there for the public school, but….

Pray for wisdom and discernment and for Him to show the way. To open the door if it is to be. He we show you. Best of luck.

Have to go to downtown BR from Mandeville once or twice a month and fricken dread it every time. Not sure I’d take a 200% raise to make that commute daily. And no chance in hell would I leave Mandeville to move to BR, I don’t get the appeal of BR.

I would do anything to avoid that I-12 early commute into Baton Rouge.

Try Prairieville or get you some of those wooden shoes and live in Dutchtown. We all wear them here.
