I moved from Baton Rouge to the Northshore and kept my job in BR. The commute is rough if you don’t plan well. I try to leave early enough to beat the traffic coming and going.

It’s worth it to me, for now. Living in Baton Rouge became bad for my mental health and well-being. I’m much happier here.

This changed the demographics at Dutchtown HS. Dutchtown is still a great school, but the kids that went to Prairieville HS are not the ones Dutchtown needed to lose.

Not true. The kids in Dutchtown high school district actually have much nicer neighborhoods than on the other side of Airline in P’ville district.

Remember, the Dutchtown HS map goes all the way to the river through many poor areas.

True that there are nicer neighborhoods in the Dutchtown area, but also true that there's a lot of country ghetto in the DTHS area coming from the Hwy 74 and Geismer areas. At least Dutchtown gets some good football players by looking the other way, lol

Add the EA Gonzales kids and the Baton Rouge kids who are attending, but don't live in the Dutchtown district. Just compare the neighborhood demographics to the HS student demographics. It doesn't add up.

I have 3 kids at Dutchtown. It's strange that when they go to their friends' houses, many times I'm driving all the way to Gonzales to drop them off. DTHS really needs to crack down on the attendance zones.

Housing is Covington is less than most areas worth living in Louisiana.

I wouldn't send any child to any public/charter school in Louisiana.

I would make the move if the job is significantly better. Prairieville and AP in general aren’t as nice as Covington in terms of feeling like a real cohesive town or anything. They try harder in St. Tammany to make things “nice” if that makes sense. But the subdivisions are pretty comparable.

Whatever you do, do not try to make that commute. You will want to unalive yourself after a few weeks. Not. Worth. It.

Agreed. I'm not sure if I'd make that commute for a 70% pay increase.

2+ hours commuting every week day sounds like a drag

This is categorically insane. HP did a study more than a decade ago about what factors impacted whether new hires, at all levels, stayed with their current company.

#1, by a mile, was a commute time of over about 40 minutes each direction. You have no concept of the amount of dread you're going to experience by week #2. If you were a developer doing a commute into Silicon Valley for a $400k job and 500k in stock options after year four, you'd still hate it.

Time > money

Can always get more $.

Cannot get more time. It’s the most precious resource.

Spending it on I-12 on a good day, much less against its normal odds of traffic jams, is like burning $100 bills of precious life.

Never do that.

Theres not much housing in that area for it to even be a concern. What ghetto area are you talking about? I work out in Geismar. Stoney Point down there is hands down nicer than anything the other side has to offer and that’s not counting Bluff rd and all down 73 from the interstate to airline with custom home neighborhoods. The demographics for DTHS were actually slightly better than PVHS this past year. I’m not sure what you are looking at. 61% white to 55% for PVHS . 23.9% black to 24.8% for PVHS. PVHS has way more Hispanics and DTHS has more Asians.

Prairieville School District. My Son goes there and it’s great. It’s a brand new HS.

No doubt but if we’re comparing money and demographics. DTHS has PVHS district beat easy. Theres million dollar homes off Bluff

Ok point taken. My Nephew and Niece just graduated from Dutchtown and are doing well at LSU. I am partial to Pville.

Ascension is bursting at the seams, too many people.

One long heavy rainstorm is going to flood that place like crazy.

Move somewhere like around Holden and homeschool.

For sure. But you’ve had those experiences in bigger places abroad as a counterpoint.

I couldn't do it brother but more power to you. Do what makes you happy and what is best for you and your family.

It brings every aspect of life down
I suggest you move. Good riddance

I live in Covington. If I am working in BR for more than a day I get a hotel room. I hope this helps.
