Never thought that they ask for receipts to deter thieves? They don't do this at places thieves don't shop. Quit your bitching and show the receipt or start shopping at places (read: not wal mart) that don't have to ask

I really don't think it's THAT much of a deterrent. I've never once had any of those people checking do more than glance at my reciept.Never once did they even look at was in my bags And the local Walmart I've been to lately doesn't even do it anymore.

shoplifting is out of control at the big box stores, and I support what the stores do to reduce. the old dude you call sentinel is generally more senile , don't pick on them it just confuses

Thank you for asking and not making a stupid and snarky comment. My point is I do not have a constitutional obligation to prove I did not commit a crime. If another party believes I did they must prove the offense.
I believe stores have the right to detain and interrogate someone accused of a crime as long as that person has an avenue to walk away and is not being held against their will.
If they are not accusing someone of a crime they have no right to demand to see a receipt.
