Just for fun, go there again and make some purchases. When they ask to see your receipt< tell them you lost it. Wonder what they will do - take your stuff away?

I have a friend who bitches about this..The guy is intelligent and has common sense.. I tell him "Just show the fooken receipt..What do you have to hide..There a lot of other things more important to bitch about".

Walmart can demand whatever they want. They're a private entity and you're on their private property.
The police need reasonable suspicion, which you give them by refusing to show your receipt in store.
Don't like it? Stay off Walmart property.

Even if he's a police officer on duty, he's responding to a complaint from a story employee in OP's scenario. Given the 4th Amendment's threshold of reasonable actions relative to a Terry stop, it doesn't seem unreasonable even for the government.
That said, I highly doubt the cop was more than off duty security for Walmart. If OP went to a Walmart that has a constant police presence at the front door, he needs to reevaluate which stores he goes to.
