WSJ normal paper subscription rate is outrageously high. I have to cancel and wait a few months before they offer me the same rate as last year. The automatic rate reduction offers are still too high. You eventually get an offer below that in the mail after a couple months.
Oh, and frick the Advocate. Liberal mouthpiece for BR.

I feel like that was a company recently that got into trouble by making it intentionally difficult to cancel. I'll have to see if I can find it.

My CC is attached to too many other services for me to go that route.

I think I paid $79-99 a year for more than a decade. Then I read what they considered "reporting" during 2020, and never paid them another cent.

Don't know if it would work for you in this case, but it has worked for me for less localized companies
Several states require by law "click to cancel" options. So often timed if you change your mailing address one of these states, like california, you get an online cancellation option
Been a long time since I have tried it, but it has come in clutch for me in the past
We were suppose to have national "click to cancel" about a year ago but a federal court put a stop to it

I just cancelled my Advocate "digital" newspaper online.
1st - Go to "My Account" - It takes you to a "Your Subscription Dashboard"
2nd - Look for "My Account" again. It is a tab on top of the page.
Hover over, "My Account" and a drop down list will appear. Click "Edit My Subscription"
3rd - Under "Update Subscriber", the 2nd line reads "To Cancel My subscription" click here. It is written in very fine print so most people glance over it.
Hope that helps.

I'm an attorney who knew the exact script going in... and it still took me 19 minutes (I looked after the call ended) of repeating "no thank you, I'd still like to cancel" over and over again

so you actually paid the advocate to read their stuff?
Sounds like you are getting what you deserve.

and they will still throw you unwanted weekly papers to rot in your front yard

Same thing happened to us with the Main Street Methodist Church.
Wife set us up on a monthly draft. We couldn't get it cancelled on our card.

One must call and then days later wait for a callback from a high pressure salesman who will try to sell them out of cancelling.
THat is how scam outfits operate.
That's probably illegal. It could be a nice little class action suit.

YouTube TV is a labyrinth as well.
Trick is skipping all the normal steps and flying directly to Tibet to directly to Ajax the YouTube TV monk who can cancel subscription.
Temple password is “Dali Jigglewitcz”

So this is true?
My mom's husband who is 82 years old was complaining because the advocate didn't have the LSU softball scores so he decided to cancel.. Then a few days later he tells us that he tried to cancel it and someone was supposed to call him back, but he thought they just told him that so he would keep it and they were banking on him to forget about it so he called them back..
Whoever deals with those calls has to be a patient person because I doubt anyone under the age of 60 still has a subscription to the advocate.

I called and canceled my last Internet provider at least twice, maybe three times. I finally just blocked their charges on my credit card.
That was probably 6 months ago and I still get junk mail about my payments not going through and them threatening to cancel my service.

I had an Advocate salesman call me once and try to hard sell me to get a subscription.
I interrupted his sales pitch and simply told him that if I wanted to get all of the propaganda that the DNC wants to brainwash a bunch of retards with, I would just go to the DNC website and subscribe to their newsletter. I don’t need the the scumbags Advocate propagandists masquerading as “journalists" to get that kind of garbage.
He paused for about five seconds, came back and said, “Okay, thank you," and hung up.
