In the latter you never own anything...you are borrowing someone else's property...how the hell does that make sense??

Depending on your life both have advantages. If you enjoy a lifestyle of moving and enjoying different cities/areas then renting is great. I have been doing it for a few years now and don't plan on stopping. Stayed on the beach in Cali for a few years and made some great friends and memories. Going to Vegas at the end of this month to look at some places because I may move there for 6 months or so just because I want to. That's not to mention the advantage of no maintenance so I can literally go every day and do what I want with no worries.

I do own property in Louisiana still FWIW.

You completely misunderstand the meaning of the phrase “ life is suffering “. It doesn’t mean ALL life is suffering, it means that you can’t escape suffering. You lack the ability to “ make life” the way you want. Sickness, ignorance, death, malevolence, anxiety, terrible mistakes -all these things will find you. They will happen to you whether you drive your life like a boss or not.

That’s why we can’t RELY on “ fun”. It’s impossible to have fun when your dog just died and your buddy has cancer and you just lost your gig. So you have to have an underlying sense of meaning, a way to make sense of the purpose of your life. That way you easily shake off the tough times. You have a better sense of self and purpose and acceptance of the inevitability of suffering.

As for all the garbage materialism and status- seeking people use to fill their emptiness, yeah- that’s going to get you nowhere. There is a direct parallel between profound unhappiness and seeking your happiness through projecting your status through social media and materialism.

You’re wrong. Try and enjoy the little things in life, and not look at the macro view so much.

social media just amplifies it

living your life with expectations of other people will always lead to emptiness, because you have no internal barometer

this is an area where being an emotionally deficient, isolated person comes in handy. understanding my expectations are all that truly matters, matters. the key is figuring out how to develop proper expectations and then the strategy and discipline in meeting them

the current posting population in this thread isn't the level of poster who will fall for his bait

so he's probably going to decrease in posting

So does literally everyone else. Just like crypto it is already over saturated and will take money from suckers looking for the next gold rush.

Hmmm...I'm sure there are stats out there, but who tends to suffer more from depression/anxiety? Extroverts or introverts?

Popped in my head after your isolated person comment above.

I think some legitimately can't or struggle to do this, and it makes me sad.

By way of example, the Masters is in a couple months. The last 3-4 months have been pretty shitty for us, but man do I love the Masters. It's not going to change my life, but I'm going to enjoy it and it's one of a number of small things on my radar to look forward to.

Sure, if I thought really hard about it I'd realize it's a tournament played by more successful and wealthy people and that I'm just some passive, useful idiot to be advertised to, but it's the fricking Masters man. Can't wait.

GD this is well stated. If only more people would realize this and just get off of social media.

Of course this type of stuff still existed before social media in the form of old lady gossip so you can never truly escape it but you can reduce your exposure to it.
