"let me just slave away and pay for someone else's house for them."

If being a "wagie" and working for someone else is bad, what do you call someone paying for someone else's property for them?

I want more renters like you. Happy to keep paying me with no ambitions to leave.

Tell you what...if you sign up for direct deposit, i'll take 5% of your rent, pleeb.

Won’t matter if Bernie taxes his profits to smithereens and leaves the economy in the shitter

I think some legitimately can't or struggle to do this, and it makes me sad.

Absolutely true. I think social media has made the issue worse.

Average lives are quite boring. I will say that any person can make their life extraordinary if they try.

I would think extreme extroverts are overcompensating. May be the cynic in me but people like Robin Williams come to mind.

This winter, I have spent a lot of the cold Saturday nights watching funny movies with my dog asleep at my feet while I drank a cup of hot chocolate. That’s happiness for me.

You completely misunderstand the meaning of the phrase “ life is suffering “. It doesn’t mean ALL life is suffering, it means that you can’t escape suffering. You lack the ability to “ make life” the way you want. Sickness, ignorance, death, malevolence, anxiety, terrible mistakes -all these things will find you. They will happen to you whether you drive your life like a boss or not.

That’s why we can’t RELY on “ fun”. It’s impossible to have fun when your dog just died and your buddy has cancer and you just lost your gig. So you have to have an underlying sense of meaning, a way to make sense of the purpose of your life. That way you easily shake off the tough times. You have a better sense of self and purpose and acceptance of the inevitability of suffering.

As for all the garbage materialism and status- seeking people use to fill their emptiness, yeah- that’s going to get you nowhere. There is a direct parallel between profound unhappiness and seeking your happiness through projecting your status through social media and materialism.

This is wisdom, sadly very few on here will get it.

If only more people would realize this and just get off of social media.

you know, i am still on FB but primarily using it as my own anarchist outlet (since i'm more serious on here)

i realized a couple weeks ago that i never really got on the twitter train and i never use insta

i legit am "old man yelling at cloud" now at these. the twitter stuff i really just realized with the active hive mind going on there. and insta is social media on steroids. i can't think of one legit reason to be dependent on insta for anything healthy

Even people who understand what social media does and are conscious of how it impacts them can struggle with it. I know people like that, successful people who are probably envied by many but will hone in on someone else's perfection and let it get under their skin.

My response, of course, is who cares? Of course some people will be smarter, more ambitious, better looking, wealthier. I'll just be sort of smart, somewhat ambitious, ok looking and make decent money and do all the shite I like to do.

i think rocket doesn't post enough in a row to remember the level he's supposed to be at so when he comes back to drop bombs he increases the volume beyond what's necessary. which is ironic given his comments in OP

I only have Twitter for political and financial news I follow. I find it more mainlined for my interest since I choose who I follow and for that it's better than anything else. Other than that, I don't do social media. It's cancer at this point.

“Elite lifestyle” has been around for what, a few decades in terms of modern life? Was everything pointless before then?

I stopped competing with others and started trying to impress myself and my world changed. Honestly my standards for myself are higher. Maybe not in superficial ways though

In a way it helps to disconnect from the norm and figure out what really makes yourself tick. I'm certainly not saying the other way is bad, but it didn't work for me.
