My response, of course, is who cares? Of course some people will be smarter, more ambitious, better looking, wealthier. I'll just be sort of smart, somewhat ambitious, ok looking and make decent money and do all the shite I like to do.

chances are something in their life sucks tbh. You shouldn't judge yourself in relation to others. Make your life extraordinary for you, and you know what, chances are others will think better of you. Being yourself is the biggest liberating thing you can do. Not only is it easier, it makes you happier.

trouble is its so hard to do.

average life is still depressing compared to an elite lifestyle

What is it about their lifestyle that makes you so envious?

Do you just want to party all day?

ideal way to market your business especially if target population is 18-25

i have a love/hate relationship with social media.

i do think its just a convenient excuse to blame when people are depressed when its much more than that

Instagram is great for following local businesses. Find out what’s up and coming, know the best happy hours, etc.

Better to be bored and happy than the other way around. I would think most people aren't particularly happy though.

It truly gets easier as you get older.

I always thought this was a myth but I give less of a frick the older I get. Knocking on 40 now and I feel like I am on the verge of wearing socks with sandals if it makes me happy without giving a damn what others think.

that post was about the population you referenced

i'm not talking about depression. i'm talking about narcissism. social media is turning large portions of the population into incredible narcissists, where it's becoming expected (not accepted) behavior

i don't think there is anything special about insta that twitter or FB wouldn't cover (and i imagine it's all cross posted)

People overthink what makes them happy

Give me a good workout on a weekend morning followed by coffee

Or a good book before bed

Traveling to see friends

If happiness always comes in the form of new stuff or a huge event, yeah life will probably fricking suck

GD this is well stated. If only more people would realize this and just get off of social media.

Of course this type of stuff still existed before social media in the form of old lady gossip so you can never truly escape it but you can reduce your exposure to it.
1993 had this figured out:

I would think extreme extroverts are overcompensating. May be the cynic in me but people like Robin Williams come to mind.

Ya, I was just curious. I'm an extreme introvert. People just annoy the frick out of me in general. I've never suffered from depression. Failure just pisses me off. I'm probably an anomaly though.

I think this is true. Our own little realities we deal with are far more important than what's happening outside.

Most people I know personally are pretty damn happy.

human nature is narcissistic imo, instagram just gives one a medium to display it

i think the diagnosis of depression is catered towards more centrist/extroverted people so there is overlap with introverted behavior
