You would not find a 2016 F-150, which is fully loaded, for less than 45K in the fall of 2015.
You should have waited a couple of months then if you bought in the fall. Did you purchase outright or finance it?

Ever wonder what the actual cost to make these trucks are? Much less any other vehicle. The markup has to be insane.

Haven't read the whole thread, but here is my comment on this. Sticker is now meaningless. So much goes into what you eventually pay. I just bought a new truck. Here are round numbers. Sticker was $46. Advertised price was $39. I paid $32. Why? My guess is a combination of the lot having a few 2015s left and me being both out of town and talking up the deals in Houston. I started this process thinking there would be no way i could actually buy a new truck. I am glad I actually put in the effort to do so.

what kind of truck? S10 or an F150/Sierra?

I'm thought a lot about this. Here is my guess based upon the truck I bought.
Sticker $53,761
Paid $37,500
Dealer Cost $33-35K
Manufacturer Overhead $3-5K
Cost to manufacture 30K
My guess is a F150 4x4 XLT 302A and a few other options probably cost Ford $30-33K to manufacture.
It's a bit of a guess though. Mark up on trucks is huge. Very large profits on trucks even after rebates and other incentives.

the used truck market is crazy high too
From what I can tell, they price them off the sticker price and not the selling price, so the depreciation is not as much as it seems and the deal you are getting as a used buyer is not as good either. There are deals to be had but you've got to be lucky or vigilant. You're pretty much better off buying new if you can negotiate a good deal.

Hell, they still want 35K for a two old truck with 50K miles.
I looked used a few months ago. There wasn't a truck available with under 100K miles for less than $35,0000

2wd's can be had right at $30000
Yeah, but what's the point of a 2wd truck?

A Chevy Tahoe has basically become a luxury vehicle. I've always driven one but don't think I can justify getting a new one when the time comes for me to start shopping.

Agree that prices have gone up. At our lot, were still selling 2013 Tundra models for over $40k, pretty crazy. But also have a 2016 Tundra with under 5k miles for $27500, so just depends on what you 'have/need' to have versus what you 'want'

Most of the young generation only look at how much the monthly note is. They don't pay attention to the total cost

That 2016 w/under 5K must be a base model.

Guy I know/work with's silverado's(2016) note is $750/month. When he told me that, I just laughed. I mean, for that much, you can drive anything. Just about anything.
I just know that for what he's spending every month on a truck, he's not hauling any dirt or tossing tools in the bed.

Ill just buy the used one with 15k miles for like 30k.
No you won't. Year old with low miles is about as poor a purchase in the truck game as you can make right now.
Especially if you finance the truck. Interest rates are higher on used, usually.

Expand your search area to Texas, and you'll find hundreds (maybe a thousand) that fit your criteria. I'm never gonna spend more than 5 minutes talking to dealerships in Louisiana again. It's pointless.
Current truck was bought for $13.5k in Houston with zero haggling and a $75 flight. They picked me up from the airport, and I was driving off of the lot 45 minutes after I got there. An identical truck with 300 more miles was in BR for $21k, and I talked them down to $19k.
Previous truck was bought for $27.5k in San Antonio. Two identical ones in Louisiana that had within 500 miles of mine were $37.5 and $39k.
You've got to be an absolute moron to shop for used trucks in Louisiana
