My contribution
In 2005, my F150 KR sticker was 41,000
In 2014, my F150 base model was 42,000
That's some crazy inflation. But when banks are offering 120 month car notes...

All depends on what you're looking for. I drive a lot but still need a truck. So I enjoy the luxury features. My advice, wait and buy a 2016 in early 2017. I bought my 15 Sierra 1500 Denali for $16K under sticker in February of 16. After trade-in (paid off 2010 tundra) I financed just under $30K.

Of course there are always exceptions to the rule, I was mainly implying paying close to sticker price.

You're complaining about a truck costing $43k? Damn, maybe you don't need a truck?

Lo interest rates and low gas prices inflate new car prices

They are making trucks better nowadays. I had a 2006 Z71 Avalanche for ten years and put 275,000+ miles on it with no major work except changing a water pump. If I can get that kind of performance out of a luxury SUV/Truck, they are worth a little more than they used to be.

Disappointed that Cash For Clunkers has only been mentioned twice in this thread.

Imagine how much it would have been for the Yeti Edition.
Heard the operators have been $8k over sticker for those.

interest rates have something to do with it. Actual cost with interest probably hasn't changed that much, you're just seeing more of it on the sticker.
I don't even know what this means.

Sticker price and negotiated price are mutually exclusive.
My '15 Sierra (Blackout package) listed for $49K; I paid $28K (includes $10K trade-in).

The truck is the opposite of the Everyman vehicle today. I see plenty of people with $125k houses driving $60k trucks and wonder how they think it makes any sense.

In the early 60's, my father paid $1,800 for a new Chevy pickup. Cars were going for $4,000+ then.
About 20 years ago I was looking for a new vehicle. Decided to look at pickups. Every dealer I went to had no price listed on the sticker. I guess the dealer was too embarrassed to show the public how much they were charging.
Haven't shopped for pickups since.

Trucks started gett8ng crazy during the SUV craze of the 90s. People wanted them to be loaded like a car so trucks went from being just utilarian to practically a luxury vehicle that tows. Back when I was a young guy, a loaded truck meant you had ac, anti lock brakes, power steering and a cassette player. Trucks today have standard features that just 20 years ago would have been the domain of high end luxury cars.

Then i guess they sold the truck to you for $38,000. Not bad.

I bought a nicely equipped 2008 GMC Sierra Crew Cab with the small V8 for $23000 brand new out the door in 08. I would pay at least $32,000 for the same truck today.
Nothing rides as good as a paid off vehicle so I'm going to Rock it till the wheels fall off or pass it on to my son.

I think it has more to do with the popularity of the mid-size trucks & the price of those.
