I do wonder...everything is so so freaking expensive nowadays, what's going to happen in 10 years? Prices really can't keep rising at the rate they're rising now or else everything will be unaffordable.

This is #1 by a wide margin. All the issues tie together, but I'm amazed at current costs of pretty much everything. However, everyone still has an iphone, all the toys, cars, etc. There's gotta be a reckoning at some point.

Turn off the TV, stop reading the paper, reading news on your phone or computer. Unplug completely and you’ll find it isn’t. It’s the news media that wants you to think that.

I blame EVERYTHING bad on social media, and the internet.

I blame Jerry Springer. He made public trashiness acceptable and encouraged. A cause for celebration and celebrity.

Instead of being embarrassed by awful behavior, it was promoted. The internet and social media spread the stupidity like a wildfire; that’s why we’re bombarded daily with videos of losers doing terrible things in public spaces.

To the OP, give yourself a break from news and social media for a few days, and you’ll be amazed how much better your mental state will feel

maybe, depending on where you live… but that doesn’t mean society isn’t collapsing

Step 1 - unplug

Step 2 - go take nature walk. Listen to birds, observe flower blooms, see the kingdoms of life that live because of trees, the invisible life in their root systems, oxygen producing leaves, etc.

Your mind will reorient to life, not man made BS. Your spirit will be free. Your thoughts will find peace.

I do this weekly in retirement, and most aspects of my life are better for it.

I’m sure I’ll be DVd hard on this, but the blind support for either major party is a problem. Politics is a rich man’s game these days. You have to have money to run, so there’s hardly anybody in a position of power that understands the plight of the common man.

I read an article that was mostly about Julia Letlow on WSJ this morning. In it, they casually threw out that the PAC behind her has spent 9 million on ads, while the one backing Cassidy has spent 21 million.

That's ONE Senate primary

Most great civilizations historically dont last more than about 200 years. So the answer is yes. But we only get one life so make the best of it. Try not to concentrate on the idiots and live your best life and enjoy the small stuff. Stop and look at the beauty of our Earth.

You’re mistaken if you think the United States has been a great civilization for 250 years. Place was a dump for the first half, improved slowly from the Industrial Revolution to WW2 with the depression being a brief return to being a total hellscape, and you’ve been fortunate enough to live through the golden era brought by a massive manufacturing boom made possible by a population explosion in parallel with the destruction of several key societies and militaries while ours remained unscathed.

We are at the end of the era of globalization. The US is no longer going to police the oceans for free trade. Regional dominance is the future.

You're retired. Easier to disconnect when you don't have to deal with the daily grind and build a future.

Western societies are being atomized by mass immigration. You're not imagining it.

You're getting older and society is collapsing. Two things can be true at once.

PS Benjamin Buttons isn't real, and it's impossible for people to ever get younger. Everybody gets older every second of every day.

Social media is a cancer.

Social media is just exposing the cancer that has always been present.

You wouldn’t blame the doctor for diagnosing a tumor that already existed. So don’t blame social media for problems that already existed.

Same age and I couldn’t agree more. I would just add to the never ending list of reasons why.

This feels like the biggest one to me. I saw a post the other day of some guy saying that he went to Idaho Falls on a Sunday and by the way it looked, he said there must be 100 million illegal immigrants in the country. Also legal and refugees.

Reliable source you got there. A guy who sized up the country’s entire illegal immigrant population from one day in Idaho falls

In all seriousness, I think blaming one’s shortcomings on a particular group of people is just not productive. If you can’t cut it in the US, that’s your fault. Educate yourself, work hard, make smart financial moves. Blaming others won’t get you anywhere.
