Nope. Is that a thing in it?

I used to have someone go look in their car and see if it was messy while I interviewed them. If it was I threw their resume away.
Yep, coulda been a great employee, but he had a few empty cups on the floorboard in the back. That’s a stupid test. Sounds like you’re a great and wise boss who considers the entirety of what a person could bring to an organization. I would bet your own car is a mess.

At a previous company, working in HR, I conducted well over 1,000 screening interviews. If the person wore their cologne/perfume on their hands and thereby transferred to me, they never made it past the screening interview.
Just a personal decision - if you can't wash your hands prior to an interview, it's a no for me.

It costs nothing to be clean and organized. If you’re throwing trash on the floor in your car then I don’t trust you to take care of millions of dollars of complex equipment. I’m sure jiffy lube would be fine but this was expensive and dangerous stuff.
And no my cars are orderly, zero trash on the floor and cleaned once or twice a month.

I’m shocked this many people are defending the funky monkeys. We have more baws here driving around with trash all over the place than I realized

Staffing new start-up ethylene plants in Saudi, Kuwait and Malaysia, all done through brokers and English as a second language was complex.
Work process was structured to cause applicant to do work in order to get ahead in the application. Start with a good job description covering both technical and team skill requirements. Collect a 1000 resumes, reduce to 100 getting sent notices to supply additional information, 60 respondents get interviewed by labor broker, 10 get invited to formal interview with owners representatives. 7 get offers.
Formal interviews were structured to evaluate personnel skills in working in a team environment . IE, call for more help or lend a hand, refuse an unsafe request , carry your tools to first visit to job site, truthfully explain a failure,
One thing all brokers coached applicants about English language. The proper response always includes "I can do that"

I don’t even know what most of the people I manage drive tbh. And I surely couldn’t have found their vehicle when they were interviewing.

I have a good friend that is an attorney at one of the NOLA white shoe firms and he told me that before they schedule an interview they have their HR person look at their Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. he says they have passed even on attorney applicants because of Facebook content.
What do they say about locked profiles, a small presence etc?
I still use Facebook a bit but never did much on LinkedIn. And surprisingly, most of the big cheeses at my job have old Linkedins with a crappy profile pic & 100 connections at the most

Always ask what their favorite movie is and why

If a person has dirty shoes then they definitely can’t do the job successfully. I too spend lots of time focusing on someone’s nails

If they are not mindful of their own space then they are even less mindful of others space. I doubt they operate well in a team

I have a friend who has a excavating\road building company. Most of his employees are pretty rough guys.
He had someone come interview to be a driver (CDL-dump trucks) who brought a 6 pack of beer to the interview. At 8am.
He did not get hired.

When I worked at the shitty finance company, we were hiring for a front desk role; basically taking walk in payments from customers, answering the phones, and doing some phone reminders on loans that were 10 days past due.
Half the applicants showed up for their interviews dressed like they were going to the club: halter tops, short skirts, skin tight clothing. And most of them weren't the type of people you'd want to see dressed like that.
I was like "You realize you're applying for an office job, and not for a shot girl at the local bar, right?"

If you manage a janitorial company, awesome idea…if you are hiring intellectuals, engineers, scientists, etc….thanks for sending me all the smart people

Roger Penske washed and waxed his racecars before every Indy 500 when no else did that.
He has won more 500s than anyone, and now owns the facility.

I have one. How about showing up for an interview about 10-15 minutes early, and having to wait another hour? That's completely disrespectful, and a red flag by the employer right off the bat. Had it done once.
