How about showing up for an interview about 10-15 minutes early, and having to wait another hour? That's completely disrespectful, and a red flag by the employer right off the bat.

That would suck.

Yep. They never gave me a reason or apologized. Glad I passed up that job.

This happened to me. Met a guy for lunch, got there 10 minutes early. He was over a half an hour late so I was sitting at a table by myself for like 45 minutes.

They eventually made me an offer for the same amount of money I was making and the dude was shocked when I told him no thanks

Exactly. We were giving guys company trucks with a couple hundred grand of specialty tools that needed to be taken care of. Plus i just don't trust having someone who can't throw their trash away take care of a unit thats worth tens of millions and has to work on live oil wells.

Now that i only hire white collar people, i don't do it anymore. I think my new version of it would be show me how many unread emails you have. But HR would probably throw a fit. Good news i only hire other managers now so it's less of an issue.

I can't believe I haven't heard this one before. But somehow I'm not surprised by this part:

When potential employers would ask”Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” That absurd, lazy, dumb assed question used to be a red flag to me…it irritates the shite out of me when it’s asked. Where I see myself in 5 years? Being your damned boss so I can ask you the same annoying arse question!

If you manage a janitorial company, awesome idea

These were large OD coiled tubing units and big fluid and nitrogen pumps. The pipe alone cost millions of dollars and there were thousands og hydraulic circuits on these units. One screw up could destroy a well. I don't need someone who's too lazy to throw away trash working on them. Most of then were engineers, mechanics or e-techs.

I find your decision making skills questionable,
being you jump to the conclusion the messy car is their car

my wifes car with 3 kids was always a disaster.
good thing I drove my primered truck, it was clean inside

or would you judge me on the primer, instead?

It's worked out pretty well for me so far.

Then i probably wouldn't trust her with a 200k truck or 15k digital torque gun. For an admin job i wouldn't care or even look.

Is there 3 days worth of mcdonalds bags in your passenger floor board? IDGAF about the paint.

Facial piercings
Pronouns on their resume
Unnatural hair color

All of these are an immediate disqualification IMO.

Biggest red flag though is when I ask what questions they have and they immediately start asking about starting pay and vacation policies. I’m fine with them asking, but if that’s the first question they have, it indicates to me they’re not looking for a career here and will jump ship at the drop of a hat.

The guy who did that worked for me too so part of it was to save him from some of the idiots that were trying to be field techs in the eagleford in 2014. It was a mess down there.

3 stick out in my mind.
First one is when I asked his comfort level with working as part of a team. He told me he was more comfortable working where nobody told him what to do. He'd rather be the guy who was like a kid in a basement by himself.

Another asked if we drug tested - before we even started the interview. Told him yes and he got up and left.

Last one showed up in a huge Angry Birds t-shirt and a Phineas & Ferb baseball cap. I politely declined the interview.

We had a guy come in with a McDonald's breakfast combo, started the interview asking if he could eat it, interview was over before he finished his biscuit.

1. Zero knowledge of the position, process or company. Read the description of the job, take a moment to know basic information associated with the company.
2. Filler conversations words, such as "um", "like" and random use of "big" words that have no bearing or association with the interview process.
3. Poor hygiene, take a shower, smell decent, and wear clothes that are appropriate for the interview.
