Sorta like an AR-15 .223 round but from a pistol.

Ballistically it's a .22 Magnum.

22 mag can’t even produce the velocity a 5.7 pistol can, with a 20”+ barrel.

So is it confirmed dude ended the threat, or just distracted the shooter?

The In-N-Out CEO heiress made a post that the shooter "ended his life shortly after" shooting associate and customers.

While both cartridges use similar .22-caliber projectile weights, the 5.7x28mm is a high-pressure centerfire round that delivers roughly double the muzzle energy and significantly higher handgun velocities than the rimfire 22 Magnum (.22 WMR).

Key Ballistic DifferencesIgnition

Type: The 5.7x28mm uses a reliable centerfire primer, whereas the .22 Magnum is a rimfire cartridge.

Muzzle Energy: “The power difference is about double. The 22 mag can only produce about 200 foot pounds, the 5.7 can produce 350-400 foot pounds of energy.”, as noted on 1911Forum.

Velocity from Handguns: Fired from a standard handgun barrel, 5.7x28mm routinely exceeds 1,700 feet per second (fps), while a .22 Magnum out of a comparable handgun barrel typically lags behind at 1,100 to 1,350 fps.

The "Glorified .22 Mag" Myth: Critics often call the 5.7 an overpriced rimfire, but “The two cartridges have comparable bullet weights and velocities, but only if you compare a 5.7 pistol to .22 Magnum out of a rifle-length barrel.”

Damn, didn’t know he’d gotten out of the music business.

Those brutal Idaho winters must accelerate the aging process.

Very good and informative post. You also have to add in the tumbling aspect like a .22 with much higher velocity
