Would have to be a sign and trade unless Mathurin wants to come for $15 a year

This just simply doesn’t move the needle in any appreciable way.

He'd be a good off the bench risk/reward guy. He's a typical Dumars type. Talented player who failed to live up to expectations but was still productive. He still has upside and is the type of player a cap strapped team like the Pelicans should be targeting and developing.

I much rather put Mathurin on the floor than Hawkins and Poole. At this stage, we are in no position to turn our nose at the chance to bolster the bench.

Dumars is King of constructing a 30 win roster.

Shamit Dua: I'll have more thoughts on this. But in a hypothetical Mathurin sign and trade that sends Herb to the Clippers, the Pelicans would be severely downgrading in terms of guys who impact winning. Herb's 3 year RAPM is +3.2, Mathurin's is -2.9. The difference equal to adding a star

We'd presumably be getting picks back in that deal. We can still deal Herb and Trey and tank for a couple of years and rebuild.

You can never do this with Joe Dumars

He just gave up our top-10 pick this year by not understanding how to include protections on picks traded.

Why would you acquire Mathurin in this plan?

The only way including Herb would make sense would be if Poole is involved also.

DJJ and Mathurin at 20 million, Herb and Poole going back to Clips also opens up our full MLE also that we could throw at Kuminga or someone else.

Could also wrap Hawk in going to Memphis with Clips sending a 2nd or 2 to Memphis, which would open up the roster spot for the MLE player.

Trading our 26 year old near star player to start a rebuild while trading another asset for a mediocre 24 year old (to whom we must give an extension during this rebuild) makes all the sense in the world. What are you talking about?

You want to completely lose what little fans you have left. Trade Herb for Mathurin in a S&T.

The point of Hawkins going to Memphis to dump his salary is so that a move like this is possible without needing to give up salary.

If your going to trade Herb it should be to Denver for either Cam Johnson or Peyton Watson
The nuggets can’t keep them both. If they keep Watson at $25m/yr it will cost them over $100M EXTRA in their tax bill.
That should be who we are talking to about trading Herb. Dumping Hawkins makes it possible for us to absorb that extra salary from them.

Mathurin would be a disaster at $20 million a year. He is not worth that at all. I would hesitate a bit at the full MLE.

Y'all need to chill tf out. Herb is not close to a star player. He's a star defender with horrid offense. and he's about to turn 28 y/o not just turning 26.

*Rumors that we are interested in a player to pair with Fears/ Queen/ Missi

*Comments we have no plan.

Yeah upgrading SG with players that fit our rebuild timeline sounds like they have absolutely no plan at all.

But keeping Herb who is only worth a shite on a contending team while knowing we aren't contending IS a plan for the future.

Dumb.

Typical Dan. In one thread you're calling Trey a potential all-star with room to grow and a reason to be excited for the team. In another thread criticizing a guy for calling him a near star.
