An LAPD sergeant violated department policy by kneeling on the neck of NBA player Jaxson Hayes while arresting him in response to a call about a domestic dispute last July, the Los Angeles Police Commission ruled Tuesday. After Hayes, a 6-foot-11 center for the New Orleans Pelicans, was taken to the ground by police outside a Woodland Hills home, Sgt. Darren Holst began kneeling on his neck. Hayes shouted, “I can’t breathe,” and another officer used a Taser on him twice, hitting him once in the chest, LAPD Chief Michel Moore wrote in a report released after the Police Commission’s weekly meeting Tuesday. Commissioners agreed with the chief’s findings that the knee-on-the-neck maneuver went against department protocols but that the use of the Taser was justified.

At this point I don’t care about the arrest, I want Jax moved for basketball reasons.

Crazy it took over a year to acknowledge this and the LAPD was outwardly more concerned about Hayes bruising someone’s elbow and saying the soft a N word, than their own officers tazing someone near the heart, when they basically were already subdued and also kneeling on their neck in arguably a worse manner than the G Floyd incident.
Jax doesn’t have anything to be proud of in this situation for sure, but the LAPD handled this entire ordeal in a pretty disgusting fashion.

Yep, one of those situations where both things can be true:
- Jaxson Hayes' actions were deplorable and probably should be punished more than he currently is being.
- The LAPD also acted out of line with their use of excessive force and the way they handled the aftermath.

Yeah. The Cops should have never showed up. That way a doped up pro athlete could have beat his woman in peace. The audacity of them showing up and not following textbook procedure. I hope you are held to such high standards in your dangerous profession..

Do you think that police should not be held to a high standard??

The PD had to issue a statement saying the cop broke policy (something they just love doing right?) by having his knee on a guys neck, let's not act like they were close to textbook procedure.

Holy cow, brmark! You have some unusual opinions, but this one is pretty "out there."

The cop knelt on his neck???
He should get fired for colossal stupidity.

So Jaxson has to follow the rules, but the cops don’t? What kind of dumbass standard is that?

Obviously, you've never been arrested for something that you didn't do. I was, in 2009 (charges were never filed). I promise that, if you're ever in that position (which is extremely frustrating, to put it mildly), you will care very much about the professionalism of the police officer who arrests you.

I acknowledged Jax’s wrongdoing. I’m just saying it was a joke how LAPD handled this overall. Not just the field work, but all the stuff after as well. There are great police officers/departments and bad ones. Both things can be true.
I’m not a defund the police or an F the police guy by any means. I know that job is mostly impossible. But I don’t blindly defend one side in every situation. LAPD and Jax both effed up here. I hate to admit that as a Jax/Pels fan and I hate to admit that as someone that is generally a fan of the police doing what they need to do to stop crime and safely return back home to their family’s.

This is no different than almost every one of these high profile police incidents.
Stupid people interact with stupid cops and bad shite happens.
I tend to lean pro police because of the dumb criminals weren't breaking the law to begin with, we never get to this point.
Hayes is a retard. Cops are also dumb. I have no sympathy for any of them involved.

When have they ever handled something properly?

It's on video. Cops are going to get fired and get records. Possibly ruin their lives.
Hayes is going to get a new contract and his record will be scrubbed after he is "clean". He will probably win a settlement from the police.
I am not in favor for any of that..
