The actual correct answer is probably Ryan Reynolds, who's sarcastic smarm, which is his only mode, has been deployed well only once. Doesn't matter if it's Deadpool or Detective Pikachu or just Friends or Green Lantern or 6 Underground or Definitely Maybe. Same affect, same sarcasm. No other value added.

I think you nailed this one.

Yeah Reynolds is a great choice.

He wasn't himself in only one thing I've seen - Amityville Horror.

Fishburn turned down pulp fiction

Conflicting stories I guess.

I heard it from Tarantino's mouth that Fishburn was his first choice...I can't remember where.

Jack Nicholson plays Jack Nicholson in everything HE’S in.

To answer the OP, I’ll go with Johnny Depp.

For whatever reason, Mark Ruffalo has never sold a scene to me. Every time I see him on screen, I feel like I am watching a guy struggling to act.

I put him in the same category as Worthington: you know his name, but despite all the hype the studios give him, he just can’t make the leap to A-lister.

In your book, perhaps. But Ruffalo is a part of the MCU ensemble, coupled with a pile of indie cred. That adds up to A-list.

And directed Brad Pitt to play Robert Redford in A River Runs Through It.
Samuel L. Jackson is a contender but my vote is for the late once A-lister Marlon Brando.

He was about to cast the guy who ended up playing the bartender before he met Sam Jackson.

Brad Pitt has been basically playing the same character for 30 years just in different scenarios and contexts.

He’s cool as shite, but he’s not much of an actor.

Underrated Rom Com. Really enjoyed it. He was in a film probably 20 years ago called The Nines. It was weird as frick and not what he normally does. I thought he was fine in it. I think he can play a wider range of characters but the studios pay him boat loads of money to play Ryan Reynolds.

What character is Mickey? Is he Jesse James or is he Mills? Or maybe he’s Jeffrey Goines or Tristan or Louis or Billy Beane or Wardaddy?
