This can be said for many very popular actors. I think we first have to understand that there are great movie stars and then there are great “actors”. There really aren’t very many that fit both categories at the same time.

Daniel Day Lewis is a tremendous actor but I wouldn’t really consider him a movie star.

Sylvester Stallone was a tremendous movie star but I don’t think anyone would ever say he was a great actor.

I generally agree with this, but I loved his performance in Any Given Sunday

Leaving Las Vegas is not really a movie that shows chops…. He is basically a zombie most of the movie…. He acts like a drunk and then a paranoid psycho, but make up does wonders

Nick cage is not a great actor

I think the George Clooney call was legit…. What is his best acting performance??? He plays the same thing every time

O Brother
Burn After Reading
Out of Sight
Three Brothers
Michael Clayton

None of these people are the same thing.

No end to the bad takes, it seems...

The actual correct answer is probably Ryan Reynolds, who's sarcastic smarm, which is his only mode, has been deployed well only once. Doesn't matter if it's Deadpool or Detective Pikachu or just Friends or Green Lantern or 6 Underground or Definitely Maybe. Same affect, same sarcasm. No other value added.

Great one. Same shite in almost every single movie.

The weird thing about RR is his best performance came very early in his career, in the 1960 TV production of The Iceman Cometh (when he was 24)

Carrey is an amazing actor that’s had a lot of duds. The Truman show, eternal sunshine come to mind.

Donnie Brasco
Carlito's Way
The Insider
Insomnia

I get why he has that reputation, but I still consider him one of the best.

I read an interview where he said he can do other parts, but they keep throwing huge checks at him to play that same loudmouth character.

I think Redford, other than being handsome, had a very pleasant voice.

Was Shia Labeouf A-list?

That's my answer, then. He was great in Holes. Since then? Lukewarm dog shite on a cracker.

Someone posted a clip a few years ago of Keanu trying to do an English accent. It's hilarious.
