So much to unpack here.. 1) she’s woman, for whatever that is worth.. 2) who in their right mind would watch ANY sequel before seeing the original, and then think that their opinion carries ANY weight whatsoever ?? Gtfo

If anyone thinks Maverick is better than the original, their opinion on anything film related is irrelevant.

I like the sequel better, because the first one is such a cheese fest. The second one feels a lot more grounded, emotional, and has real heartfelt stakes. The first one is like one long music video. The first one is entertaining, but it doesn’t feel like anything more than mindless entertainment.

The love story was the only flaw in Top Gun. Maverick is essentially Top Gun with out the terrible love story.

I get it, people like explosions and guns but Alien is better than Aliens. Not a knock on Aliens, it was great but nowhere near the intensity and originality of the 1st one.

I’m not necessarily going to agree with you, but I think you’re on the right path here.
the original Terminator was a revolutionary story and drew so much interest that it spawned a series of films. It obviously didn’t have the effects budget of T2 or the total resources behind it.
First Blood was as much the story about the treatment of Vietnam vets as it was
specifically about the character John Rambo. The movie is somewhat of a downer as it ends with Rambo in handcuffs and sent to prison. Obviously, seeing him be completely heroic in Rambo FBP2 was much more enjoyable.
In both case, while I think the sequels
we’re good, more enjoyable than the originals, I’m not sure if either would have spawned the iconic series that both have become.
I’ll say the same about Top Gun Maverick. Without the original, people wouldn’t be as invested in it.

I honestly didn't get the love. It was a good, corny action movie. People act like it is The Godfather. The ending was terrible. Maverick should have died on the mission.
