People who claim that Top Gun Maverick is better than the original Top Gun

Of all the piping hot takes in re to movies, this might be the worst one… With the possible exceptions of Godfather 2 and Empire Strikes Back, there has never been a sequel that is better than the original .. AS GOOD, maybe.. but not better.. i know people who think that Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey was better than Excellent Adventure, which while Bogus Journey was great- you always have to go with the original, if for no other reason than it did it FIRST.. and in the case of Top Gun Maverick, while it might have done some things (effects, character devlopment) better than the original Top Gun- in this case the original came out like 35 YEARS before the sequel, so of course the original was better .

I don't even compare the two movies to each other and don't care which one is better.
When I sat in the theatre in the 80's seeing the first movie I wondered how things would be looking 30+ years ahead.
I'm thankful we got that.

Yes it’s a better movie because the jet action is better. We don’t watch Top Gun for the storylines and character development.

Is it though? It’s just the same exact plot with even less believable aircraft stunts.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it a ton, but it’s not better than the first one.

You know how many grown-arse men cried when Goose died in the first one ?? it sure wasnt b/c he knew how to fly the hell out of a jet, it’s becuase we grow to love the characters, even in a popcorn action flick like Top Gun .
