Rumor is, two of the siblings took up with each other, which is their business as far as I’m concerned, unless they have children. And in this case, they did. You can imagine how that turned out.

I don't remember this change that specifies the cast itself has to be diverse.

That’s because he made it up.

Stupid casting is REQUIRED for academy awards now. They have quotas for races.

The first cast under the DEI requirements and winner of 7 Academy Awards

Props to the Coens for portraying our resident culture warriors so accurately.

This one is so underrated. I wish we could have got more seasons.

They just started filming season 2. Mid to late 2027 would be my guess for the premiere.
Yes, but that’s mostly Homer’s fault. It condenses some parts but the overall structure is very similar to The Odyssey. The biggest change would be the order he explains the events of his journey. In the poem he leaves Calypso’s island and tells the story about his journey to the Phaeacians, but Nolan skipped that part and had him tell the story to Calypso before leaving the island.

Interesting. I thought Damon was fantastic

I didn’t think he was bad at all. He was just missing something that I can’t quite put my finger on.
Now that I’ve had three coffees, I’m only slightly regretting attending the 10:55pm showing last night. It was a 95% packed house with only the front row empty. It was worth it. It wasn’t perfect, but several aspects met or exceeded my expectations.

The score. All that nonsense about ‘muh orchestra’ and Ludwig gives us a masterful score without one. It’s probably the part I’m most looking forward to experiencing again for my 70mm rewatch. Already added the OST to my Spotify. It’s strange how there was no controversy when Hans Zimmer said he didn’t use an orchestra because he thinks orchestras no longer existed in the Dune universe.

As far as major characters, Holland and Pattinson impressed me the most. Bernthal and Morton did the best with their limited screen time. Damon did better than I expected, but pretty much anybody on Nolan’s shortlist of actors that rejected the role would have done better.

I don’t mind the more grounded approach to the story. Would have loved to see gods and I’m hopeful one day we will get an adaption of the Iliad or Odyssey that doesn’t shy away from the mythological forces guiding the story. I do think Mentor was Athena though, even though he died from the poison in the temple. I may be mistaken, but the look Mentor gave Odysseus during the fight to go help Telemachus made it seem like he was Athena in disguise.

Sound wise, there were parts that were very, very loud. But they never interfered with the dialogue. The only dialogue I was unable to understand was Polyphemus’ mumbling. I think it was intentional since it was explained he was praying to Poseidon once they got back to the boat.

Circe’s island was my favorite part of the trip. It’s been mentioned, but Nolan has to do a horror next.

I’m sure I’m forgetting some of the thoughts I had leaving last night, so I’ll probably have to edit this a few times for the full review. Looking forward to my rewatch on Wednesday and to see that Dune 3 footage.
Just a heads up to anybody watching at a Regal, my showing started after 12 minutes of ads and two trailers. Usually there are 20-25 minutes. Could just be my theater, but keep it in mind when you go see it.
It’s been a trend for several years to try and use only natural light to light a scene. The end of GoT and most of HOTD suffers from this too. There is one scene in season 1 of HOTD that happens outside in the sun and somehow it is still dark. It’s a silly choice that needs to end soon.

Reminds me of the quote from the LOTR cinematographer Andrew Lesnie. They were filming a night scene and Sean Astin asked where the light was coming from. Lesnie responded “Same place as the music”.

If it was another rerun of Interstellar, all of those showings would be sold out.

If the Odyssey was only showing in 300 theaters nationwide for 2 weeks, these would be sold out too.

With this opening today, should I update this for spoilers? Or would you prefer to keep this a non-spoiler thread?

I would say two threads, but we are already getting spoiler clips here, so I guess it doesn’t really matter.
I’ve watched Oppenheimer and Interstellar at the Indy IMAX. It was worth the 3 hour drive from Chicago, although I’m thankful I have one within 45 mins now.

So unless you see the IMAX 70mm, you are literally missing a chunk of the film.

If your local IMAX is dual laser, you should have the same aspect ratio as 70mm.

Hopefully the physical release has aspect ratios as an option. Similar situation happened with the last Dune and they didn’t include the full aspect ratio for the release so you really only saw the full movie if you watched in IMAX during its theatrical run. Will most likely get another chance for that one as a re-release before Dune 3 in December.
