re: Mandela Effect

quote:
Or my personal favorite Mandela effect ... The quote from Dumb and Dumber that everyone uses isn't "so you're saying there's a chance" ... it's "so you're telling me there's a chance" Another movie quote one is Forest Gump. The quote is not "life's like a box of chocolates" ... it's "like was like a box of chocolates" Another movie quote. In Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, the quote isn't "Luke, I am your father." It's "No, I am your Father." This one I think is because they did wrong in the movie Tommy Boy
I think movie quotes shouldn’t be lumped into the Mandela effect, because something else is a play with them.
Take “Luke, I am your father”, “play it again Sam” or “frankly Scarlett, I don’t give a damn”.
I think those quotes were actually changed by society telephone game style in order to cement the connection to the source material.
Saying “Luke” ensured that people knew you were talking about Star Wars…along with trying to mimic JEJ’s voice.
re: Glenn Valley foods CEO says he didn’t know most his workers were illegal

What is he supposed to do exactly? The federal government set up e-Verify, and he says he used it on every single employee. What are the requirements for him to be compliant? If he is compliant, what will you fine him for? I agree that employers who knowingly hire illegals should suffer the consequences. But what measures should they be required to take at their own expense to determine an employee's legal status outside of what the government requires? ETA: he also made it quite clear that he was cooperating fully with ICE and seemed taken aback that they suggested he could have denied them entrance and said he would never do that.
This really points out the total government shite show that has been created by “politicizing” this issue.

I’m going to disagree. I thought it was an underwhelming end to what was otherwise a great season.
Since everyone has had time to see it, I’ll elaborate on my comments.
1- the lawyer who was seldom seen or developed as a character being the rat didn’t hit very hard.
2- Richie was too easily fooled into an obvious setup.
3- Kat was setup to be super powerful- yet Harry just flat rejects her to make her up as an enemy? Why didn’t he suggest partnership?
There were other things that were good, certainly. I look forward to a second season.

Yes, it’s 100-percent wrong to give blanket cash payments to folks. But in certain targeted cases it MAY be appropriate.

re: Any of you baws or bawettes prefer Dauphin Island over Gulf Shores/Orange Beach?
Posted by lsusa on 5/6/25 at 3:03 pm

Dauphin island is more laid back. Less to do. Fewer restaurants or bars. No big resorts. Depends on what you want I’ve stayed out on dauphin island for weeks at a time and just fished every day in my boat , cooked seafood on the pier and had a blast with friends and family.
This is spot on. The Island is a lot less congested if you’re looking for a more relaxed experience.

Am I the only one more interested in what happens with Syril than anything else happening on this show? Such a bizarre character to feature in a series like this, Tony Gilroy has to have big plans for him. I predict he goes full rebel.
I think Syril’s motivations throughout season 1 hint strongly toward his ultimate fate.

The irony is thick, because when we were a more serious nation we jailed convicted felons instead of electing them.
This boob continues to operate at the level of a petulant 12-year old…and his cult followers just eat it up.
re: Cable News Network Ratings- First Quarter 2025

It’s Fox News. I know you don’t want to hear that because you’re married to talking points instead of facts but if you go back to pre 2016 Fox News was pushing left wing issues like open boarders and the surveillance state. In fact there was a ton of overlap and Obama worship on Fox News at the time even going so far as to fire one of their personalities who criticized him. Their shift to the right has been based on ratings but they are not the alt right network your masters have told you they are.
You seem awfully defensive in response to a simple question. You also seem to make numerous assumptions based solely on the fact I asked a question.

re: Citizen Kane - worth it or no?
Posted by lsusa on 4/28/25 at 4:38 pm
It’s absolutely worth seeing once, if for no other reason than cultural literacy. If you’ve watched a lot of older films, I think you’ll understand why this movie gets the respect it does.
With that said, it’s not something that is eminently rewatchable like Casablanca.
