The first one was one of the all time greatest movies ever made and the sequel was merely that...a sequel. It wasn't bad but to compare it to the masterpiece of the original is nonsense.

It’s the same reason Die Hard was so good.. sure the explosions were great, but it means nothing if we are not invested in the McClanes’ marriage, the fat black cop from Family Matters who had once shot a kid, etc etc etc

I thought the second one was better than the first. Couldn’t give a shite whether you think my opinion is wrong or not. However, it sounds like you are seeking validation of yours.

Also, Top Gun = Maverick. Not better, though I can understand a younger crowd preferring the more recent movie. But... Kilmer at his prime, Michael Ironside, Tom Skerrit, Anthony Edwards, and what's-his-name - the sweaty bald guy with the cigar. The original TG had such a cool cast and a much better soundtrack which makes up for some dated pacing and special effects.

I just thought it was good seeing a normal action movie again.
There are many ways they could have screwed it up with current day nonsense but it was refreshing just to see kick arse jet fighters doing their thing.
I also appreciated the pre-movie. ‘Thank you’ by Tom Cruise.
