Without question for me ‘Silence Of The Lambs.’ The fact that it got nominated for best picture stunned me. The fact that it won was when I realized the Oscars jumped the shark.
I thought the movie was so absurd I actually struggled while watching trying to figure out if the movie was actually a comedy.
Dr. Lecter talked like Peter Lorre on Acid. I thought who in their right mind would be the patient of a maniac that talked like that?
The scene where he killed the two cops while in the cage was one of the funniest scenes in the history of filmdom. I actually laughed out loud and was greeted with stern stares in the theater.
That movie so deserves to be on Mystery Science Theater!!!

The Goonies. I actually do understand why this one is popular, though. It's because a lot of people saw it as a kid so it gets a pass on pure nostalgia rather than any merit.

It's just kids screaming for two hours.

I'm just going to assume that the OP was just trolling so I won't respond to that.

This however:

The first time I watched it I thought it was terrible. The second time I thought it was pretty funny. Now I find it completely hilarious.

Came to post this. I don’t hate it. It’s aesthetically amazing.

But best picture nominee was laughable. Hurt Locker was a slog but I was glad it beat out Avatar.

Felt the same about Black Panther. I highly enjoy BP and it’s very rewatchable, but come on guys. It’s mid tier.

So far, this thread has filled out most of my list.

I'll add the Daniel Craig Bond films. Once you're past Casino Royale, it's an ongoing saga instead of a franchise of individual stories (which is how I prefer my Bond).

Good on you. It took me until they gave best picture to the movie where the ugly chick fricks a fish man and then busts him out of the lab and the clutches of evil whitey, with the help of her communist homo friends.

My answer is Home Alone. It's not bad, but I never understood why it was such a huge blockbuster. Salma Hayek in Dogma agrees with me.

Grease

Other than ONJ being hot that movie makes my skin crawl. Plus I’m so sick of that soundtrack Id be happy to never hear any of those songs again…except maybe Hopelessly Devoted to You by ONJ.

I’m a huge Coens fan and even I didn’t like it when I first saw it.

Knowing what is going on when you watch it a second time makes it much better, especially when you realize how everyone thinks they are in a different movie than they are in, such as Sam Elliott as the cowboy.

It’s probably the greatest comedy of all time. The performances by Daniels, Goodman and Hoffman are legendary.

I’m not sure there is a more rewatchable movie

The Dark Knight. People talk about that movie like it’s the greatest thing they ever watched. Batman Begins was a better movie.
